Have we done the new Islabikes tyres?

Are these likely to be any better than an off-the-shelf SB8?

Ouch! The fancy ones are seriously expensive...

That's one of the reasons I'm asking; #1 spawn's Cnoc has SB8s on and these seem more than good enough.

I'm about to go looking for some 24" slightly-knobblier-than-what-was-supplied tyres for a Frog 62...I don't pay that price for my own tyres, there isn't uch hope I'd pay that for someone elses!

Saying that, I'm unsure where to start looking for 24" tyres, so I suspect I'm about to get an eye-opener when I start looking at the cost.

Skin wall - so automatically off my list. Sprogs will be rolling on the rims before I let them have those.

DickBarton Rocket Ron 24x2.1 seems to be the tyre of choice, and is around the weight of the islabike treads. Around £20 a pop when you can find them.

Probably not - though I don't particularly rate SB8s anyway (from testing I've seen Nobby Nics roll faster). Islabike clearly won't have the economies of scale of off the shelf tyres, or the cheaper sales channels, so they're likely to be more expensive than other options - though I'm sure they'll sell well enough to the affluent target market (I write as a serial Islabike owner, but I don't think I'm part of that market any more).

Not that I have the issue of 24" tyres as we've gone straight from a 20 to a 26 (plenty of decent BMX tyres available for the 20), but a few options here apart from the usual channels: http://www.unicycle.uk.com/unicycle-parts/tyres.html?sizewheel=470

I bought 24's for the lads new bike recently.

I can fit a 2.1 on the front in a Schwalbe Smart Sam, but i had to get a Halfords 1.75 generic knobbly for the rear. i MAY have got away with the 1.9 Smart Same on it, but not convinced.

Beinn 24 BTW.

The SB8's just have very little tread for mud/dirt.

The mud ones look very similar to a clement pdx, if your kid was racing cx a lot might be worth it. Same price as an adult tyre!

+1 for the 2.1 Rocket Rons on a 24"

Problem I now face is that jr_bandito #1 now is a firm follower of the "big wheels roll faster" mantra and wants some + size tyres to match mine.
24x2.5 anyone in a 26" wheeled frame?

Maxxis Snypers fit on the Beinn 20, if you are three feet tall, they a fat bike tyre in proportion!

The bigger one had Conti Mountain Kings on the Beinn 24 seem adequate. We don't shred the gnar terribly hard, but they don't seem to slow either of them down.

Might well have a look at the rocket rons next time round.

We've had 2.2" Maxis Snyper in the front of a Beinn 20 L with a 2.0" in the back. Plus bikes for wee ones.

Got a pair for sale with not too much wear if anyone's keen.

Currently have Mow Joe tyres on our 20 (whatever was going cheap at the time), but they're pretty worn and I was thinking of getting some new ones, so interested in the Snypers.

Schwable Rocket Ron 2.1 in the back of a new Beinn 24 no problem. It doesn't look big for a 2.1 though.

Couldn't get the 2.1 Small block 8 in the back of a 20" one though. They do look big though. Front no problem

Not that it necessarily helps, but clearance is fine with 2.1 Nobby Nics on our Beinn 26. I'm going to try a 2.4 Racing Ralph I have spare in the front (fairly sure one of those won't fit in the back).
