Its coming up to Jnr FD's 5th birthday, and he has completely out grown his current bike.

We have just been to look at a Frog bike, and I was very impressed. The only downside I can see is that it comes with slick ish tyres which would be no good off road, however the shop said they would throw some knobbly tyres in for free. The only other downside I can see is that its about 1kg heavier than the Isla, will that make much difference?

So why spend £50 more for the Isla?

Ta

The Isla will get more £££ when you come to sell it

If you are right (and I don't see how you can know, Frog haven't been around long enough for a SH market to be established IMO) that's offset by the £50 spent buying it.

But for the Frog you have to factor in buying knobbly tyres... £15/20?

If you're looking at the geared Beinns, what about this from Genesis?

It's what I would have gone for if it had been around / I'd known about / it came in pink 8 months ago!

Islas have steel forks, and the frogs have alloy.

Markie - Thats a nice looking bike, but £500 for a 5 year old is just silly !

They will change the tyres for free, plus let me keep the existing ones...

Agreed on the money front - thankfully as it wasn't available when we were looking I didn't need to let head say to heart 'no way, I mean, WTF?!'!

That makes weight perhaps the only real issue, and I don't believe it would matter to us. Ms Markie cycles just as easily (trail rides, village cruising and pump tracking) with or without her basket fitted - and when the basket's fitted it's prob always filled with at least a kilo of stuff!

My little one has just move up from an isla beinn and we got a frog 65. It was light well made and thought out and the little lady preferred it. Money back on selling in comparison to the isla i dont see a problem at all they are a bit cheaper and im sure will hold value just as well.

Tbh ive had 3 islas and the frog looks better put together imo. Very very happy with it. Oh and my beinn came with thin tyres too so i had to buy knobblies for it anyway

We looked at Frog and Isla, nearly got the Frog, but it was the wider ratio cassette on the Isla and the screw on freewheel on the Frog that swung us to the Isla.

Ive made the decision to go for the Frog.

For no other reason than Mrs FD said the Frog looked nicer than the Isla, and looks mean more to a 5 yr old than what gear ratios are available 🙂

When I was looking the gear ratio on the frog was not very good for mountain biking. They had a larger chainring than the Isla and a narrow range cassette. Not sure if that is still the case.

They had an overhaul last year ajc ours is a 62 not 65 .

New on fitted my little one but old style didnt. Its got shorter cranks stem altered geometry and an 11-32t rear cassette. shifter was also changed

oh and importantly for my little one it has a couple of green spokes to look fancy lol

Great bikes 🙂 and a five year warranty too. Very happy with ours
