Anyway, yes, as a gravel bike do people think with the amount of post showing that this frame is perhaps too small?

It feels bang on length wise, which is what I went off when I got it, but not sure if I should have gone for a large.

Rides amazingly (so perhaps there is the answer!) just bugging me.

Just based on amount of post and ratio to the bars o wouldn’t say that’s necessarily too small. Fairly standard for a road bike - maybe gravel bikes are sometimes a touch less nose down perhaps.

If it feels good to ride then just ride it!

The bench is too small for me. Maybe hold the phone nearer to your eyes and it will look bigger.

Too small. Too much post, too much stem height. Larger frame and an inline post would keep the reach the same but allow a better overall fit.

I would say that's OK, but you're near the extreme for that size frame, but you've still got saddle rail adjustment room and stem spacers aren't excessive / bar drop OK.

There is plenty of post in the frame still, think I don’t like that much post showing on a gravel bike. It is designed to be a dropped top tube bike and others appear similar ish.

You won’t find it on the vitus website considering it’s a Titus Goldrush...

Think I am going to see if they will swap it for a large, told them that I have ridden it so they will check it and let me know.

breninbeener you think? They are deep section Mavic cosmics, whilst maybe not iconic, certainly a thing. Think they look cool! Have got some much nicer, more subtle open pro hat rims db spokes and black hope hubs coming (I don’t like to think of wheels as things, but as collections of parts!)

Looks fine - but without some vital numbers it's hard to say whether it fits you!

I've tended to down-size when presented with a choice between a larger and smaller frame size, although I'm not saying that's right.

Compared to the larger option a smaller frame might feel more alert and be very slightly lighter. In smaller sizes, you may find toe overlap is an issue for a road or gravel bike.

Yeah think either size could work but aesthetically speaking prefer less post. Hey ho.

Lane is Ramsden road in the north peaks (Holmfirth ish).

Lots of spacers and then stem flat looks better but annoys me from a practical standpoint. You could do the size bigger and adjust it and end up with exactly the same position so not sure if bother, if it's comfy and it works then crack on.

That really. If it feels right it is right.

Not really that many spacers but a standard length stem and saddle set about right on the rails would suggest its not far off. The next size up would have a longer head tube so a spacer or less for same bar height but would then be longer top tube so you would have a shorter than average stem.

I think the fact that the frame is a very sloping style of frame is just making the frame look small and ideally the next size up would look better but not really make much difference to ride.

Definitely in this case i think. Don't normally go for this sort of nonsense but they ruin the clean lines of this bike.

How has this thread got 34 responses (35 now) full of judgment and observation when the OP has taken a photo with rather a large and obvious component missing?

We need a lardy ex mtber sat on it like a sack of spuds before we anyone can pass reasonable judgment on fit (preferably with pedals at 12/6 O'clock and 2 photos one on hoods and another on drops).

I prefer a small frame and long stem. More weight over the front wheel. Although the head tube is a little short, the stem looks ok with built in spacing. Seatpost is irrelevant if long enough.

If you like the ride and handling, then it is fine. A large will handle differently as you’ll need a shorter stem.

If in doubt, I always recommend sizing down.

Don't fret over the amount of post showing. Some people have long legs relative to their height, some short.

But from the pic you supplied the post and reach both look way too long.

Just an update on the most excited post this year...

So, I really do appreciate the views you guys have shared and yes, it would have been better to have a picture with my lard ass actually on the bike.

Enough of you confirmed that it is possibly too small/on the boarder line so, I have contacted Planet X and they are happy to swap it, even though I have ridden it. Mega kudos to them for excellent communications and customer service.

Mini review: it’s flipping an amazing frame for the price, I tested a much more expensive ti frame and it didn’t feel as titaniumy (that’s a word - fact) as this. Really really well built, not super light but super capable.

Buy one. In fact buy two. Thank you pX.

I prefer to have a bit of post showing because with a decent carbon post you're going to get some flex - the post on mine flexes about 15-20mm which is a fair bit of bump absorption. Bigger frame + shorter post = firmer ride.

It's each to their own, but so long as you knees don't touch the bars when you're climbing out of the saddle it'll be fine.

My roadie has a lot of post showing, my gravel bike doesn't... probably due to the road bike being a pretty compact frame and the gravel bike not.

However I’ve had professional bike fit years ago I’m all legs with short torso.
5’11 and ride 53-55cm road and 17”/medium mtb’s

Plus-one - what is the saddle to bar drop on those road bikes. It looks a lot to me (esp the vitus) unless you are super super flexy. Inline post too on a pretty small frame for your height.

I'm a similar height and also long legged proportionally. My centre BB to saddle top (12cm from nose) is 802mm. I chose/choose road frames to suit and elected go for models with a longer headtube for a given length. Just going for a smallish frame size to combat a shorter torso for your height gives us the 'unusual' setup you've got there.

10cm saddle to bar drop was about where I drew the line when racing. Now I'm older, less flexible and not so focussed on performance and speed I'd probably want to get that to 8cm. But that does require being picky about brand choice.

The seat post comments are erroneous. But saddle to bar is important, although subjective and individual.

Have been paranoid about having chosen the wrong size ever since I had a couple of 'that looks small' comments (for the bike that is 😄). I'm average proportions (5"9' 30" inside leg) and bang in the middle of the height range for a medium but, like the OP's, it seems to have a lot of seat post showing.
I know it's a compact designed frame with a sloping top tube but still....

@faz71, you’re thought process is the same as mine. Mtbs look cool with lots of post, ravel/groad/cyclogross look better with less.
