Visiting in a few weeks & wondered if it’s worth taking my MTB?
Any trail centres or natural stuff nearby?
Sort of, but really just xc.
Plenty of bridleways and stuff but no gnartech.
I live there and have ridden virtually everywhere you can ride, and some places you can't, and yeah, worth a ride I think.
Always nice exploring new areas.
No trail centres. Cannock is about an hour up the road, Woburn about an hour down the road, fod about an hour and a half along the road.
Thanks for that.
Are Waverley, wappenbury & Ryton woods any good (looking at Uk maps)?
When visiting a friend there, I tend to just take a singlespeed. It mostly seems just flat pootling between cafes and pubs.
Seem to pass through a few parks with BMX tracks or pump tracks on our rides though.
Those woods are all wildlife reserves and bikes are really not encouraged. I enjoy riding the bridleways around here but as kayak23 says, there is no gnarr.
Might just take the running shoes 😩
If there was, I wouldn't live in Scotland now.
It's a bit rubbish.
There's bridleways, but it's a bit hit and miss how many are passable (never mind fun), especially this time of year (lots are ploughed/churned up from harvesting, or overgrown).
The canal up to Hatton Locks is nice enough, plus you could go for a loop around Newbold Comyn/go on the 4x course. Tbf, you can ride all over Newbold Comyn now as it's a disused golf course - the council are planning on turning part of it into mountain bikes tracks, but that's in the future.
There's a not terrible route that goes around the Ryton Pools/Wappenbury area, not sure how it's riding atm though. Again, it's mostly pootling on bridleways on the edge of fields and country roads. Occasionally there's cows on route, if you like an element of danger.
Generally having fun in woodland in that area of Warwickshire is strongly discouraged. 🙁 If you can find a nice bridleway loop it's nice enough, depends what you're after.
Wappenbury is ace. Brandon Wood is worth an explore.
The woods either side of the Kenilworth Road between Gibbet Hill and the A45 are superb.
It takes a bit of local knowledge to piece together all the best bits though. No one place is enough for a decent ride.
I'm sure I could share some Strava routes with you if you plan to ride.
Another option is to get in touch with RLSCC (royal Leamington spa [s]canoe[/s] cycling club) who do regular rides in the week running from the Giant store in town.
I'm sure you'd be able to tag on to one.
As above though, lots of nice little bits but local knowledge needed to link them up.
There's actually been a fair few threads on this area over the years if you have a Google.
Pre covid I was nearby for some training courses and took the road bike - lots of quiet lanes for an early morning loop.
Thanks everyone 👍🏻
