No, it's within the EU so all is well (provided you're in the UK) 🙂

German VAT is the same as UK and should all be included (unless you are a VAT registered business)

Exchange rate I presume, £ was weakening Vs everything else for a while so imports got expensive (everyone wingeing that bike prices were getting silly), then the euro tanked so the german retailers are probably buying at a price they agreed with shimano et al. sometime last year which with the fluctuations in exchange rates mean it's now a lot less than CRC et al. are paying.

it looks like they charge a minimum of £4-98 for shipping to the UK and also add 3% fee if you use a credit card

EU is a good thing shocker

its cheaper as in Briatin too many confuse value and price. So we often pay more for the same goods than other countries

or is that cycling regarded as a postive in Germany so items are VAT free

Seems it is just dearer for the same stuff here, about 25% according this:

Yet isn't Germany's economy growing 7% per annum while ours is stagnant? I'm guessing they don't have a Tory party in power.

Your vat money goes to the German government not the UK hence contributing to the ongoing cuts in the UK. 😀

Or they have a better work ethic than us; I once heard a German say that they also liked to 'have a laugh' at work, they just waited til the work was finished.

With regards to why they're cheaper, I think UK distributors play a role in keeping the prices high in the UK. I bet retail mark ups in Germany and the UK are about the same, it's just that retailers in Germany can source kit more cheaply.

Take Shimano as an example, UK retailers can only really buy Shimano stock from Madison whereas retailers in mainland Europe have a couple of distribution sources to choose who they get stock from. More distributor competition means lower trade prices. From what I've seen some of the retail prices on Shimano stuff in Germany is near to the Madison UK trade price.

The 6 quid I paid for delivery from rosebikes.de (or whatever it was!) was great value. Delivered by DHL and had a tracking number that told (amongst other things) me my reverb was en route from the retailer to the depot in Germany! Jeezo!
