.. will let you import rides from your own Strava and give you turn by turn directions to follow it again?
It's not automatic but RidewithGPS will allow import. Then you trace the route to produce the cue sheet and hinted GPS route information. (The trace is over a grey track using your ride information not a blank map).
That’s what I’m trying to do at present with my OS mapping.
Again, not automatic but if you can download gpx from Strava then osmand allows you to import and follow (with instructions).
This is for my Mum, so it'd need to be foolproof!
My Garmin Edge 530 will do this - in Strava find ride, create route
Then on the Garmin - Navigation, find course - pick the route previously created. It will even navigate you to the start of the ride and re-route you if you go off course
Is that Trace function on RWGPS only available to subscribers? I've not seen it before and it looks useful.
Try Viewranger, OS Maps 1:25, 1:50 and road. It is £24.99 per year (that's less than half a pint of ale per month!), works on Android, IOS and Windows 10. I can create routes on my big PC screen and then just sync the app on the phone to download the route. You can also share routes with other users. From other sources like Strava and Garmin just create .GPX file and import it. Works a treat, the route tracking while riding is very good and if you have a large screen phone its a much better view than Garmin devices with a small screen. Like all phones which run GPS/tracking apps it can be battery hungry so always try and start with a a full one. A friend told my about the app as he has at for working with DorSaR (Dorset Search & Rescue), they provide the app free to all their volunteers.
I suspect route trace is a subscriber thing. It's helpful when we have routes sent to us at work and we want to produce full navigation info for the clients.
