Is there a discreet remote for SRAM AXS droppers?

Hi all,

Simple question but no solution that I know of:

Is there anyone out there making smaller, more integrated levers/ buttons for SRAM AXS dropper?

I know you can add all sorts of buttons but all options except the standard "trigger" need a Blip box. Zirbel make some nice buttons but you still need to hide a Blip box somewhere which as a user of a 35mm stem is pretty difficult.

Using some of the smaller Shimano buttons would also be a nice solution (snip the Shimano connector off and replace with the SRAM connector) but the same issue of how and where to hide a Blip box on a short stemmed bike.

Bike is a rigid SS so a clean look would be really cool. Having a left hand "trigger" hanging off the bar feels a bit meh

Is there anyone taking apart the standard SRAM dropper levers and making them in to something more integrated to the bars? Or a clever way to hide a Blip box with a short stem?

Ta!

Will the wireless blips not work somehow?

Or a Magura Vyron instead. The button wraps round the bars. Some don’t find it as intuitive to use though, on account of a .5s delay.

No, it seems there are a lot of incompatibility issues at the moment. Mostly the need for a long press and sending a constant signal which the wireless ones don't support.

Obviously personal choice, but I'm not seeing the issue with having the remote on the lever on the bar - there is no wire and unless you ride your brake levers absolutely horizontal then the controller won't really be seen.

Is it possible to get the blip box in the down tube on the frame? Maybe down near the bottom bracket (or maybe inside top tube at headset? (I don't know how large the Blip box is, hence me asking the possibly daft questions).

How nerdy do you want to get?

@tomhoward I am open to other wireless droppers but the Magura Vyron Remote, whilst not dangly, isn't exactly subtle.

What I envisage is a discreetly hidden button for a wireless dropper like many have done for shifting AXS/ Di2

On an otherwise clean rigid singlespeed this really offends my eyes 🙂

@DickBarton I am thinking out loud and don't know this inside out either but my understanding is the dropper button needs to be wired to the Blip box which then takes the signal to the dropper post. So the problem with that idea is how do you get a wire to your locations. Inside the stem is the common place for a Blip box but there isn't room when the stem gets under 60mm(???) long

@ayjaydoubleyou like that but more nerdy 🙂 I am guessing he took apart the Blip box and shoved it inside the bars but I can't find any good details of what exactly was done. I also can't see that lasting too long on the off chance water gets in the bars (not helped by extra holes where the Zirbel cables have to enter the bars.

Dangerholm hides the blip box in a 70mm intend stem then drills the bars. For other ones I think he just dismantles the box and squirrels it away wherever there’s space.

It's another good link but nothing new unfortunately. The challenge is still hiding the Blip box or at least its components including the battery somewhere in reach of the button because of the wires needed.

@tomhoward thanks for that. I did think that I read before that the Dangerholm builds had the Blip box in the stem and it is an almost perfect fit with the Intend one- it all rings a bell. Not enough room in the bars or a 35mm stem though.

Steerer could be an option for the Blip box using a Shimano style Di2 stem... hmmm....

How about getting a Oneup E-Bar which has a few handy holes for wires.

You could run the blip cable into the hole by the grip, out of the hole in the centre and depending on your stem design straight into your steerer tube where you can hopefully stash the blip box.

Yep, that is what I am coming around to thinking. If the stem is too small to hide a Blip box then any Di2 bar/ stem combo to get wires in to the steerer tube seems like the best bet. I would imagine it still needs to be taken apart to fit in a steerer tube which will be an expensive experiment!

Edit: At 40 x 35mm I struggle to see any way to get it in the steerer tube.

Orrrr, sell the AXS dropper and spend the money on one of these kits and a regular cable actuated dropper. They have a similar button + controller box set up but the control box is designed to fit in a handlebar. Also lets you get more drop if that’s useful.

I’ve got one on order to use with my 240mm Oneup.
