Hello all,

Not as personal a post as the title might have you think...
I'm selling a bike to a friend and am getting it all in tip-top shape before doing so as, obviously, I can't bare the thought of a mate feeling like they've been sold a dud! Now, the chain 100% needs replacing - it's off the charts worn - pulls away from the big chainring by hand and can easily be twisted over etc...

I was planning to replace the cassette as a matter of course, however it actually looks to be in decent nick. I can't remember when I replaced it last but believe it was done at the time the chain was. They both have at least 2,000 miles on them in that case. Can anyone tell, visibly, if there are any tell-tales that the cassette could do with replacing? I'd rather err on the side of caution on this one, but equally not keen to throw away potentially fine kit.

Whilst I have you... what do you think on the big chainring? It actually looks a bit tired to me, the teeth all seem to have lost their square-edge profile and look quite stubby and rounded. Would you run or replace?

If you replace the chain with that much wear a new one will skip like buggery, the big ring looks pretty worn to me too.

The big ring is toast.

Cassette looks okay but I'd be amazed if it accepts a new chain.

Nah, cassette and big ring look ****ed to me, so replace the lot or continue with old chain.
Small ring looks ok though, you must be putting some power out!!
I’d replace, I’ve had chains snap before, I didn’t care much for it.
