A little while ago I started this thread...

Is my heart rate monitor failing?

By the end of the investigation I'd decided the problem was my own for not licking the contacts on the strap. Just to be sure I cleaned up the contacts (for the battery) and changed the battery. All has been good.

Anyway; fast-forward a month or so and the problem has returned. Garmin Edge 500 is occasionally reporting heart rate of 200-250 bpm. It happened a couple of times yesterday on my commute to work. On my way home I didn't wear the strap and simply shoved it in my rucsack.

However during my ride home I noticed that my Garmin Edge 500 is STILL reporting a heart rate value - even though the HRM strap is in my rucsack and can't be transmitting a signal!

Is the Garmin Edge 500 borked?
Anyone else had a problem like this?
What the hell do I do now?
I've had a search on t'internet and can't find any other reports of this problem :o(

Itll still pick the sensor if the little black plastic bit is popped onto the 2 studs.

It's probably a knackered HR sensor to be fair, they're only cheap so try a new one

Much of the HR weirdness I've seen has been fixed by either washing the strap or a battery swap.

Apart from once, it was years old though so bought a replacement.
