Does it look like my head tube might be cracked? I know it's a hard to see on the photo but I thought it would be worth asking anyway. Any advice is much appreciated!
Seems like a bit of an odd place to be cracked to me (but then I don't claim to know anything about these sorts of occurrences) and I don't really know what else it could be?
Probably just the paint
can't see a thing?
Looks like lacquer. If you run your nail over it is it smooth of can you feel a difference?
Frame still in warranty? I'd pop back to the shop.
I can see a sticker but i cannot really see what I am even meant to think is a crack tbh
Seems a strange way for a crack to form in that shape/location.
Looks more like paint/lacquer damage to me.
It's on the top right of the headtube, just next to where the flash is reflecting. The specialized logo sort of points at it.
There's 3 little lines that all meet in the centre and they are very feint but you can feel the biggest with a finger nail.
I believe the paint is very thin on these which is what worried me. Unfortunately I bought it second hand a few years ago but I'll run it into the bike shop tomorrow and see what they say.
Take the fork out and have a look inside?
Bit of an odd place for a crack (all I can think would be impact damage from outside or crack through from headset seat inside).
You could drop the forks out, hang the frame from the rear and put a bit of water inside the head tube - leave it a while and see if it creeps through to the outside (like crack detection dye but without any chemicals). Maybe use blu-tack to make a little dam / puddle to hold the water in the right place inside the HT.
What's the frame material?
Looks to coincide with the base of the headset area - I am guessing it's an integrated headset with bearings that drop into the frame?
I'd say yes it is cracked, as it is a specialized assuming your the original owner then speak to the dealer you bought it from and they can send some pictures to specialized who will sort it out hopefully.
If there's any doubt best take it to a dealer and get them to check it out. most mfrs frames have lifetime guarantees but either way you'll be able to get a hands-on pro to check and give you a definitive answer....rather than posting a few photos on a forum which will not really give you peace of mind.
Your 2nd link takes me to the App Store for a William Hill all or some fantasy gaming nonsense.
So,not much help from me I'm afraid.
Looks OK to me. But my armchair engineering crack-o-meter isn't fully calibrated for carbon yet. If there's any chance of a warranty, I'd let the shop have a look. Otherwise just keep an eye on it and try not to think about it the next time you're zooming downhill over cattle grids 😆
Works fine here (MacBook). Probably some stupid forum glitch - Are you on an iPad or something?Your 2nd link takes me to the App Store for a William Hill all or some fantasy gaming nonsense.
