just noticed that forks are worn at seal, not terrible but about 1cm x 1cm patch of coating worn. is it too late to save them? if not, how long have I got before they are goosed?

Any play in the bushings?

yeah bit of play in bushings, they will have to do for next few months and through winter too then will get new forks next year.
