First day back at school (and 'only' a training day), but got home early enough to get my first Friday evening head clearing ride of the new academic year in.

Quick spin round the local, scoped out a couple of new trail possibilities, and indulged my recurring obsession with old digital cameras (specifically old phone cameras this ride).

Cycle Camping in the Peak this weekend

Any good, bike friendly places to eat open on Sat and Sunday?

200km local Audax.

Longest distance I've ever done although by the end I suspect it won't have been my longest day in the saddle.

Either way am surprisingly nervous, legs are good but I suspect back and arms will be punishing me come the end!

Lovely day forecast though 😎

Went out yesterday afternoon for a cheeky spin with a friend between meetings, up early this morning as a cycling buddy says he wants to “head for the hills” which round here means going to be a steep few hours…! Still, lovely day for it. 👍

200km local Audax.

Longest distance I’ve ever done

Good luck, just take it steady. I'm easing myself back into audax with a local 100k today. Riding to and from will add another 20k, my longest ride of the year.

Just kids coaching tomorrow.
But a friend is doing the Race to the Rock (3000km unsupported) so I’ll be doing a bit of dot watching.

The Peak is a reasonably large expanse, where will you be?

The cafe next to 18 bikes in Hope should be open. Definitely bike friendly

The Bulls Head in Castleton is half decent, but not sure about bikes

Fox House pub is good near Longshaw, but book in advance. Definitely bike friendly

Not tried anywhere in Hathersage but would imagine there's something decent there

There's that spotty cafe at Langsett, or a pub over the road, both bike friendly

They are all Dark Peak - can recommend lots more if you are over the White Peak area

It's taking it steady that concerns me, whatever strength I'm lacking in core manifests itself MORE when I'm not pushing hard, sadly I don't think I'm fit enough for 200km of pushing on 😂

I bailed on riding to/from event HQ, would have made it 250km and I reckoned the last 50km might have been purgatory! Regretting it now whilst sat on bus with mate pinging me pictures of sunrise roads 🙄

Starting a very leisurely 5 day circumnavigation of the Rebellion way on Sunday,  it looks like we should have some cracking weather for it 🤞

Yes, I'll be riding but I can't work out why I can't post pics anymore!!

On my previous phone (Pixel 5) I could post images to here, new phone (Pixel 7) won't do it but I've no idea why!?!?!?

Peaslake tomorrow, it will be only my second off road ride since February (covid and general depression killed my enthusiasm) and first time on a mtb since January last year - kill or cure time!!!

Actually quite looking forward to it, been fixing bikes last couple of days so hoping the anticipation is symptomatic of a possible exit from a general malaise

No pics from today's ride as it didn't go according to plan.
@sofaking had a lie down on the first bit of the first descent and I put a slash in the sidewall of my rear tyre about 50 meters later.
I plugged the tyre no problems but sofakings shoulder didn't respond so well to trailside maintenance.
So unfortunately the ride got cut short to a quick 1000 meters of descent and an early bath.

On the plus side I found this monster in my tyre when I took it off to plug it with a mushroom patch when I got home.

apologies no photos (and also on my road bike) but did a nice 34 mile local night ride after midnight today (sat 02/09/23) from devizes to lavington then westbury and back via steeple ashton/keevil then poulshot devizes.

it got quite foggy in some sections and cold (around salisbury plain area) and if you have ever read james herbert's book the fog i was thinking of that quite a bit lol.

was a good ride for sure and my legs didn't feel dead at the end so my base fitness is getting better (i hope).

Been here long enough to know better I guess.

There was no weekend riding and pics thread, so I started it but clearly wasn't explicit enough about what I was doing.

No photo as I was too busy having fun but spent all day Saturday at Dirt Farm with some mates. They're there again today but I only booked the one day as my fitness is crap! Checked Friday evening and there were 18 spaces for Sunday still so decided to see how I felt after Saturday's fun, felt fine so went to book and it had sold out! Presumably thanks to the lovely weather so I'm sat at home sulking while they're having a big breakfast at the B&B and I'm debating whether to go for a local spin to a cafe.

Still, great start to my month of leisure 🙂

Fab day out cycling in Ringwood Forest with Mr B and friends. Was happy to get up all the hills on my SS. The reels are replacement electric cable for pylons, interesting to see that work going on!

Dorset Dirt on the Geometron today, a 9.2 mph average speed on an 18kg bike with dual crowns, and super gravity, soft compound tyres, but it pedals so well, you can keep your down-country bikes, I’m happy with my up-dh one.

Took Friday off and like many it seems, rode at the Golfie, epic day and +7000ft.

Local gravel loops Sunday and yesterday after work - glorious weather and bone-dry trails.

TAFKASTR, I wish I'd have spoken to you before my weekend in the Peaks!  Spent Saturday on the excellent Win Hill off piste goodness, then Sunday following an old 20mile GPX loop I found online that was mostly road and byways.  Pretty dull except for 2 decent techy descents.

We did manage to see the flypast at Chatsworth House though so not all bad!

Bugger

Yeah, I'm out most days at the moment, but Sunday was an early one. Well, you did better than me - saw all the balloons taking off in Chatsworth Sunday morning which was decent. I'm yet to do any Win Hill off piste though and didn't see the Red Arrows, even though I live 2 miles away. There's quite a few cracking descents in the area though

Red arrows? They came low over my head when I was climbing up Coombs road (I think) if I'd have had any breath they'd have taken it away
