Or does anyone share the notion that the pad thicknesses are a different thickness.
I don't mean the steel backing plate, I mean the actual compound that wears against the rotor.

I was just looking at the underside of a V4 caliper and the pads therein, and it looks like the pads are different thicknesses..I think I've seem the same on other brands of pads.

Is this a thing, or am I the last on the forum to know that pads normally have discrepancies

Only noticed a difference in aftermarket pads, genuine ones always seem to be the same.

4mm is what I’ve measured consistently across brands.

If you mean when new, then no but in the caliper yes because the pistons never work perfectly due to dirt and contamination meaning one side generally wears a bit quicker.
