Badly worn hose on some old XT brakes needs replaced. Half a dozen bike shops within 30 mins of my front door and a total blank is drawn. Mild curses directed at the furthest of them who said they did but didn't. If any silver lining is to be found - the kids got kinder eggs out of my travels.
Seems odd you'd think most lbs would buy it in big rolls or something so they always have some..
Seems odd to me that so many of his local bike shops wouldn't stock such basic things. It's not as though he's looking for a specialty item.
I'd have though such things as hoses and cables would be up there with inner tubes and popular brake pads.
In fairness to some of those shops a couple of them had sone hose kits, just not the one I needed. A check of online prices of full brake sets might hold a clue. Two new Shimano hose kits at retail are £10 cheaper than a full Deore brake set, minus rotors, on some websites. Have brakes become consumables?

Shimanos are/have.
Shimano hoses have the banjo fittings pre-crimped onto them. Assuming you have a banjo fitting at the calliper end, you'd need a kit. It's still a surprise that a LBS doesn't have one.
Hope hose fits shimano brakes without issue.
uberbike do hose kits in colours too
