I went up on sunday and the snow drifts covered charity lane. Some were 6ft+ deep. In the forest amongst the trees it was around a foot deep all ovee

Hows it looking now?

I was there on wednesday, charity lane was still covered in deep drifts, trees down else where, aside from the drifts most of the snow has now gone.

Id give it a few more days

Mostof the bridleways and footpaths are officially closed, but the barriers are quite easy to climb over.

As said above though i wouldnt bother for a few days yet

Tbh id not bother with the forest closed or not as lots of trees down. Charity is still full of snow and will be for another few days at least (maybe a week +)

Gradbach is a big soggy but clear of trees and snow

Classic Goyt/Taxal loop should be okay too

Carlos

Just back from a ride - my usual loop, joining Charity Lane from Walker Barn so I don’t know what the track up from the Leather’s Smithy is like - and it’s not great news. Charity is, as Carlos says, still chokka with snow, though the drifts are a lot smaller than they were last weekend. Oven Lane is fine.

I had a look along the track from Standing Stone and there’s a lot of trees down, turned back and took the road back down to the Ranger Station and stopped for a chat. He reckoned it could be a couple of months before it’s all fully open - they’ve got machines coming in on Monday to make a start but it seems there’s a huge amount of damage and I guess they've got the whole public liability thing to worry about - hence the signs everywhere.

Cookic - what's your email and I'll send you over a route round Goyt/Taxal. Not got a gpx as tend to do it as part of another loop or add bits in because I ride from Macc

as for the DH stuff in the Forest. I'd hazard a guess that it's also suffered fallen tress

I went up to Derbyshire Bridge from Whaley Bridge today. There were two very short stretches of Whiteleas Rd which were unrideable due to snow drifts but it was melting fast. It had improved a lot from yesterday and it'll be fine tomorrow.

hi living (our drive is in teh forest)there i can give some feedback

there are 12000 trees down and a lot of the forest is still closed.

DO NOT please just jump over the gate as listed above..its annoying the Rangers/workers and will delay them doing any work.

the left side(above leather smithy/ below Charity lane is closed and is off limits.. alot of trees have been weakened by the wind and ready to fall

they are working on the other side first and some footpaths have opened(limited) its easier to make safe foot paths , than the mtb track/bridgeways as some of these paths are ready for a land slide!!

United Utlities are trying their hardest, however is not just Macc forest they maintain, and the money pot isnt that deep. Contractors have had to be used to cut and remove the trees, before looking at the weak ones ready to fall(fir tree roots are not deep routed)

there is talk it could be another 6 months till complete and we are constantly reminded to to go in the areas marked footpaths closed, however many ignore the signs, or rip the signs off !!

ill keep upto date as much as i can and feel free to message me

dom

yes the loop to tegs nose i prefer.. alot dont know about it.

at the end of charity lane(not Forest Chapel) you come onto a tarmac road... if you turn left you wind down a tarmac road on the side of the forest onto a bridleway. 100 yard there is a t junction(if you turn left its a dead end after 100 yards) turn right instead... follow it all the way down to the base of teggs nose. then you can climb up teggs nose or ride along the bottom to bottom reservoir,, jump back onto the road to the leather smithy....

its a great route and i prefer it to coming back down into the forest.

I presume he means the north end at the very top so the reverse of the way most people ride charity lane. If so it’s a nice decent. The rocks are bit like marbles so ride as fast as you dare
