I think this may be a bit of a stupid question but are they? I noticed a F and a R on each side which I thought might mean something...

I've never paid any attention to what's stamped on them and just fit them effectively randomly.

Hm - sram 9 sp links? Mine appear to be identical and not have f & r stamped on them. certainly I fit them randomly
