Figured I'd get more sense on here than with the idiots at O2 and apple. My iphone 4S has an infuriating habit of dropping its signal a couple of minutes into calls so I get cut off talking to clients. Apple assure me there's no signal problem with the 4S (the infamous 'death grip' thing was apparently an iphone 4 problem and was sorted in the 4S). Admittedly signal is less than full in my office, but my old Nokia was fine and the iphone receives the calls ok initially, but then drops signal two minutes later. Anyone experiencing similar and know what I can do other than take it up with O2/apple (in whom I am rapidly losing faith)? Phone is only a month old and SIM is fine. My contract is only a month or so old, so I might be able to sack it or swap phones if this isn't curable. Ta.

I have a mate with a 4s with exactly the same problem although it seems to be just his phone that drops signals. Everyone else i call on an iphone (various versions from my iphone 4) is fine but with him we rarely make it though a call without his phone dropping the signal 1 or 2 times.

He's in London so the signal should be fine but he's struggled with every iphone he's had and it's always the same. Doesn't seem to be an explanation for it unless it's something to do with him? It's very annoying though.

Try doing a phone reset by holding the power button and home button at the same time until the Apple logo appears.

Have you installed the latest OS, should tell you under settings

Try sticking in a sim card from another phone and see what happens

Yeah, pwr on rst fixes everything. When confronted with an IT problem, I always asked, "have you tried turning it off and back on again?" with a laugh, they tried it, with a 99% success rate. Do you really think IT actually do any work?

You can also try reseting various things under General in teh settings menu. New firmware made mine drop WiFi connections, reseting the network settings solved that.

Do you have it in a case? That can affect antenna performance. Remove the case and see if it makes any difference.

It could also be dropping the calls when switching from 3G to 2G. You could be in an area that has good 2G and poor 3G. The phone might try to switch mid call because is sees a 3G signal but then cause a drop because the 3G signal is poor.

Changing the setting on the phone so it only connects to 2G networks would be the answer there.... however I think the 4S doesn't have that option! Android and Windows Phones seem to though.

It's not unlikely that the old Nokia had better performance as it might have only been using 2G.

My advice would be to get back to 02 and get a different phone or switch networks. You can test out other networks by getting hold of some free pay and go SIMs (note that T-Mobile and Orange are the same network now essentially)

I have the same issue, but it only seems to happen in areas of poor reception. I usually do the "switch it off and on again" thing!
