I've held off asking this as its a boring topic but I can't make my bloody mind up so apologies but opinions wanted.
Got my new frame yesterday, cotic solaris max steel hardtail, cost me £675. Have previously thought, 'it's a steel hardtail its meant to get scuffed up', but now I've seen it and it looks lovely and I think 'ooo, don't want to scratch that!'
Totally get invisiframe for mega expensive carbon bike and for holding value too but if the bike fits nicely and rides well I can't see myself selling any time soon.
Never seen invisiframe but def don't want the bike to look likes it's been wrapped in plastic.
What d'ya reckon?

I did my current frame by hand with helitape and it's difficult to see. From anywhere other than right up close it is invisible. A kit cut with proper tooling is going to be even less visible. Consider it another way, if the bike looks smart for longer your less likely to want to change it because it looks tired.

My replacement frame is raw + gloss lacquer. I'm still going to be covering that (with a kit this time as its quicker).

I wouldn’t bother for a metal hard tail. They ate meant to get battered!

Depends what kind of finish, I had the "dark metal" Solaris Max and the paint scuffed something terrible, quite disappointing TBH. And I am not a fanny about stuff like that usually.

So I'd certainly get some kind of frame protection, especially if it's a fancy metallic paint finish.

Never seen invisiframe

Thats as good an indictment as any 😉.

My oldest kit is 7 years old. Still fully attached, still fully invisible unless you really look. I’d post a pic, but some folk get their knickers in a twist when I do.

Do it, and do it before you ride it.

You can't see invisiframe until you're looking really close.

Really don't want to, want to get out and play! But have a feeling I'll regret not protecting it. It's a nice sparkly orange so maybe scuffs could show quite a bit..
It's a bit pricey to pay someone to do so looks like I'll be getting the baby shampoo and squeegee out..

if scratches bother you then yes.

One of the best things ive dont to my bike. Scuffed it up on branbles a bit now but its still ok.

Helitaping a bike is not the same as an invisiframed bike by any imagination.

Wouldn’t bother on steel ht - didn’t for mine
I did my tall boy with the specific pack - can’t see it (unless look hard)

Never seen invisiframe

Why do you never see elephants hiding in trees?

.

.

Because they're so good at it.

Mate of mine Invisiframed his Ti hardtail. Don't quite get that one!

I did my last frame, I snapped the rear triangle and never bothered taping the replacement. The front end still looks good and the rear still looks crap all chipped up.

I'd vday tape it. A roll of helitape on round tubes may work out well. There will be some small areas that you can't get but largely it'll remain protected and looking good

Just some clear tape where the cables/hoses touch the frame. Or where you're going to strap on (s****) a bag. Top tube protection if you're really worried about scuffing up in use. Whole frame kits seem like a lot of expense and hassle to me.

The Invisiframe kit is very good. As the Xpel; film is thinner and cut well it goes one quite easily.

I bought a load of vinyl for protecting cars for my current bike as Invisiframe didn't do a kit for mine. That was better than heli-tape for application and thicker than Invisiframe.

Oh a steel hardtail I'd get some of this and then just apply it on the high-risk areas.

In my last outing the invisiframe did get a hammering and came off quite badly in a near miss with a tree. The vinyl was better.

P.s You don't need 5m squared... and don't confuse mm and cm...

Zefal do a kit of precut helitape stuff.

You'll find it on Amazon, generic precut pieces for top tube, down tube and stays. It was only about £20 and was very easy to apply, had it on my bike a year and it still looks good.

I Invisiframe all my carbon, 3m taped my Solaris max. Easy as you'll get as its all straight tubes just need to notch out tape for cable mounts. .
I'll hand cut and wrap all the kids DJ bikes and any new non Invisiframe templates bikes too. Couple of used bikes in the family "fleet" that were cut polished when rebuilt but they already look tatty where as the taped bikes still look killer.

Well just bought the kit so I've been persuaded, but if all of those for invisiframe think elephants are good at hiding in trees maybe I should reconsider 🤔

Cotic have some custom HKT frame protection kits on the way. Not sure where on the store they are but could be worth a look/email.

Never bothered with any of my bikes, was always in the scratches and scuffs make a bike mine. But did invisiframe my 5010, four years on and every time I pull it out for a ride I’m so glad I did.

You'll be glad you did, I didn't on my Soul and it did scuff quite easily, plus while they might "cheap" compared to carbon, they're still gorgeous frames so worth looking after for sure

I would do it all personally, but at the very minimum I would do the top tube and stays.

I did my Rocket with the proper kit and my soul with tape.
Never regretted doing the Rocket, however I do regret not doing the soul properly.

Do it. did the same with my pink Moxie. was just going to be a steel winter hardtail for smashing around. Turned up and it was gorgeous, so held off and wrapped it. 8th bike i've done. you can't tell when its on unless you are really close. really does keep the bike in tip top condition.

now you've thought about it, you'll regret it the second you get a scratch, so you HAVE to do it

I invisiframed my full suss and used helitape on my steel hardtail. I found the invisframe easier to apply and a much more full job. If I was only planning to do the major likely scuffed spots I'd use helitape but if planning to do the majority I'd do the whole invisframe job. Heli tape isn't that cheap either.

I've Invisiframed all my recent frames and it is excellent.. however, it seemed a bit overkill for the simple tubes of my steel HT. In the end I got the generic kit from ShackWrap which, I believe, is the same material and fitted great with only minor trimmage. Was also a lot cheaper..

The colour of the Moxie is insane. Pics don't do it justice. Would've kicked myself if I'd not wrapped it.

Invisiframe for me, think of when you sell it on..... Would you as a buyer prefer a nice finished invisiframe or battered and scratched?
As a seller you'll get more for a nicely finished frame as well.

but now I’ve seen it and it looks lovely

If you wanna keep it lovely protect it! I fitted one to a new bike in November, have rode every weekend and most evening since then and paint/kit still look mint!

This was the first kit I've fitted myself instead of getting the shop to fit it, lil time and patience and went on fine.

I have 2 frames Invisiframed. One was a kit, the other just hand-cut sheet. Did both myself. The latter is on a Cube fatbike that has a matt grey paint. My experience is that matt paint scuffs and holds dirt. I also use frame and bar bags with the fatbike so some frame protection is essential anyway.

Why do you never see elephants hiding in trees?

Is it because they're covered in Invisiframe?

I used Invisiframe on my Solaris Max, first time I've used it on a bike and I'm glad I did.

As others have said, the quality of the paint is poor, it scuffed incredibly easily comapred to other bikes. It wasn't the cheapest of things for the kit but it was fairly easy to fit and the finished job looks much beter than random patches of 3M heli tape or suchlike.

Ordering the invisi kit is part of ordering a frame for me. Based on current timelines the kit is going to turn U.K. months before a bike😄😄
