Scraped together fund to buy my first new plastic (carbon) bike in the sales but wondering whether there is any benefit to spending £70 + getting it inviframed ? Is there a real benefit to the protection offered or anything else from it ?
Thanks
Yes.
I remember test riding a carbon hard tail a few years ago. I had baggy shorts on and the weather was foul. By the end of the test ride, the top tube was mullered.
It's mostly cosmetic but yes, I think it's worth it.
It's also quite therapeutic to fit if you're patient and methodical.
definitely worth it, for preventing chips and scratches to the paint, which in turn makes a bike easier to sell a few years down the line.
im not a patient man, so the extra £60 odd to fit it is worth it too.
But, you have to do it when the bike is new, or medically clean if not, else theres little point
100% yes
We do all of ours and have sold 2 yr old bikes that still looked brand new
Yes, my 3 year old carbon frame looks like the military use it for target practice. For resale value definitely use it straight away. Next time i definitely will 🤨
Where-as my 3 year old invisi-framed carbon frame, looks like new, so yes definitely worthwhile
Yep, I’m a big advocate for “mountain bikes should look like they’ve seen some action” until it’s time to sell them on and weep when it’s worth BFH because it looks bartered and I don’t ride carbon!!
I suspect that unless you keep ‘em forever, you’ll get your £70 back and more.
Currently have my first carbon framed bike. Bought second-hand. The fact it was invisiframed was a big part of me buying this particular frame.
Worth every penny.
It definitely works. Agree that you'll make your money back when it's time to sell.
I just ripped all mine off this evening and now feel happy again 😀
3 months since i bought my first ever new and first ever carbon frame. Was talked into having it invisiframed for all the reasons stated here. I got my mate to do it as Im not great with putting screen protectors on and to be honest my heart wasnt in it. He did a great job but it just made the bike look sad. It has a fantastic gloss black and matt black finish. I was recommended to choose the matt kit and therefor all the gloss parts look completely dull and miserable. After 3 months i couldnt stand it anymore and ripped it all off.
My outlook...whats the point in spending a fortune on something beatifull and then covering it up for ever...what does it matter if the finish is immaculate if you cant see it!
I am not going to sell it, I am going to enjoy it while it lasts and let it grow old with grace...when she gets old she will look...like me 😀
Tend you change my bikes every 12-18 months so always Invisframe, I tend to ride mine without due care and attention and the local trails here are rocky so it does help to mitigate some of the damage, maybe gives a 10% boost to resale value (not scientific at all).
Your other option is hellitape any contact points - so Head tube (cables) under down tube (rock strikes), seat stay (heal rub), and chain stay's (chain whacks, other people's pedals), under cable rub areas - e.g. near pivots and your fork crown).
Still takes an hour or so, but there is much less of it and you are protecting run areas. I'm not someone who changes his bikes though, and tend to cover the main 'rub areas'.
Next bike may well be invisiframed fully though as it will be plastic.
Needed? - No. Recommended? Yes, especially for Carbon.
I've done 2 frames now. It's excellent at protecting all the usual rubbing points but has also been invaluable when I've had a couple of offs in rocky terrain. There's no doubt there would have been some seriously scraped carbon without it.
Yes. I wish i'd done it when i got mine 18 months ago and will def budget for it next time.
I did it on my Edit as previous bikes have suffered badly on the top tube from shorts rub, I almost exclusively wear TLD moto shorts so they really go to town on the paint.
I had the luxury of doing it when the frame was fresh out of the box.
I'm a bit sad now though as I want to change the decal colour and its under the invistape, I might get some replacement panels.
I want to InvisiFrame my bike. I bought it used and it has seen some action. My plan is to touch up the paint and then hand over to a local shop to do. I plan on keeping the bike for a long time. Is it worth it in a used frame though?
Not sure about it's worth it on a used frame, it will certainly stop it deteriorating.
Do it yourself though, it's not hard, just takes about 3 hours and a few cups of tea.
Yes. I wish i’d done it when i got mine 18 months ago
Yeah, same here. Top tube of my Instinct - the orange graphics were never up to the job. What the hell were they thinking putting that paint on a mountain bike..?! I'll post a pic later, if I remember. As said by others, I don't mind it, but if I ever came to sell...
I picked up my first carbon framed bike around 18months ago, I wish I got it invisiframed, lots of small nicks from loading it into vehicles, trail features coming into contact with it and even swirl marks like you get on cars when you wash them. Next frame will be carbon and will be invisframed from the start!
