I have a converted Renault Trafic with a second row of seats fitted for the kits (like a VW Kombi) and mostly just transport my bike so can easily go in the back behind the seats. But want to get set up to transport a few more.

Has anyone installed a clever system for carrying them? Was thinking maybe a fork mount attached on one side then could put bikes width ways with front wheels removed? The other challenge is I need to carry both road bikes and MTB.

I've got a system I had with my SMax and when I sold that took the rails out and mounted them on ply wood so I can use them in my campervan. You need some T-bolts and an extruded alloy tube that has T-bolt slot. You could purchase old used roof bars off Ebay for that if you can't find any purpose built ones. Once you've  got a setup with T-Bolts you can get the fork mount stuff pretty readily.

This is my setup - I can fit three MTB's in and about 5 road bikes. You could bolt the bars onto the floor of the van if you don't have a camper setup:-

Perfect thanks, I assume the same fork mount can be used for either road or MTB's? I don't have the camper set up so a bit easier but that would work well.

I've tried one or two options over the years but most were a bit faffy. If you can fit your bike in without removing wheels etc I find a simple metal gutter (mine is from an old bed support strut that just happened to be the right size) to keep the wheels inline then use luggage straps fixed to the van's internal struts the quickest/easiest way to carry my bike

The normal QR forks attach to the silver alloy attachments, and for 15mm thru-axel the One Up attachments go on top of that.

I can't post pics here but a friend made a rack for the back of my lwb t5 kombi. Holds 5 bikes, complete, front wheel turned and in to a rack. Email in profile if you want some pics. He's a maker/doer so would happily make more.
