I know I should ask this in the EMTB forum but the adverts drive me mad.
I keep getting EO10/WO13 error messages on my E8000 powered Vitus followed by the motor stopping and refusing to go again. However next day it's fine again. This combination of error messages seems to spell doom to most motors but mine keeps coming back.
It is also unpredictable. In the week I did 25 very hilly hot miles with no trouble.
Yesterday just 11 before it cried enough.
Looked at the obvious things so has anybody any ideas?
Isn’t this the pressure on cranks error when starting up, it’s a bit of a faff but restart off the bike might work
That's what the list on the Shimano website says but a restart doesn't work until the next day, which seems a bit strange!
When it happened with mine I opened the motor as much as you can. Cleaned the terminals. Checked all the connections were tight replaced wiring from the speed sensor and updated the software - basically everything possible without changing the motor. Worked ok for a few rides and would then start cutting out randomly with the error message. That lasted about a month until it gave up completely. took it to two shops who both shrugged and said new motor.
I hired a bike with a shimano motor and that happened (least I think that was the code)
Shop said that opening the charger cap and replacing it works (maybe with a bit of cleaning/drying in there ?)
Your torque sensor is starting to fail, eventually it just stays e010 and will not work. Only fix is a new motor shimano will not sell spares so £900 for a motor plus £100 labour. Happened to my e-sommet after 21 months of use. Crc really hard work with the warranty so I Got it warrantied through a local shop which was easier athough I had to pay the labour.
Can’t see myself buying another emtb, you have to change bikes every 2 years just so you have a warranty otherwise when your shimano motor dies it’s rather expensive.
Since I started this thread the motor has gone altogether , reaching permanent EO10 which probably means it is now junk as it is out of warranty. I am now of course in a quandary about next step. Shell out a grand for a new motor or just write it off and sell the (decent) components. The wife says buy the motor , it's cheaper than a new bike but I suspect the battery is also on it's way out so another500 quid.
The only good news is that I didn't pay £10000 for something with the same fragile motor and Santa Cruz on the frame.
Maybe you can claim not fit for purpose and get it replaced that way - you might have to involve a lawyer but the courts may well decide that a motor in an eBike should last longer than 2 years despite what the warranty covers. I’ve known it be the case with TVs in so far as it’s reasonable to expect to not need to buy a replacement after 2 years as when you buy a TV you expect it to last well over 5… dunno. Worth a shot maybe….
As an ex shimano motor owner I found this place - https://www.e-motorrepairs.co.uk/, they **might** work on shimano, but I don’t think any other repair shops do.
