This just popped up on my email might be a nice jopb for somebody looking to escape the mainland.

Tempting……
i thought it may be "getting rid of 502 errors"
OMG! the salary! almost tempted...
..most of that salary will go in rent.
I know someone who likes cycling and might be out of a job soon. He's totally unsuited to it but I don't think that would stop him.
And he certainly won't have any problems with working for a money laundering organisation
That salary suggests it isn't going to be all roses...suspect there will be a lot of walls to get over (metaphorically); likely to need to really work to get things started and progressing and likely to be a lot of work on your plate.
Saying that, it could be great fun, if it did manage to progress well.
I’d go for that… cept, no experience… no degree 😩
It’s a government job and the salary puts it at mid to high level position, expect little cycling and lots of departmental management!
The salary reflects the high living costs in Jersey and skillset needed. A 2 bed flat with a parking space will set you back about £1800 a month. Food costs are also much higher than the UK; Waitrose is one of the cheaper supermarkets.
Aside from that Jersey is in desperate need of someone to do this role. It's ripe for development of cycling as a viable means of personal transport, yet the motor car dominates in a small 9x5 mile island, and cycling infrastructure is limited.
And then there's the undoubted criticism you will get from the general public that this role is a waste of money. The Facebook comments when this role was announced were vitriolic.
Someone like Adam Tranter, west midlands cycling commissioner is what they need.
Great place to live for a few years of you can afford it.
P.s. poor thread title
E-Cycling Officer
fixed it for them, maybe should apply as my condescending manner should go down a treat.
A 2 bed flat with a parking space...
A parking space! It's what? 10km across? Why would anyone have a parking space?
Should just ban cars on an island that size and use the existing road network for cycling. Bung in some off road bits and job jobbed. The car lovers will all explode from anger or die the first time they attempt to cycle more than six yards.
I’ll take one years salary for that consultation please Jersey government
Their choice of recruitment agent may emphasise the background they are looking for - ICE-recruit belongs to the Institution of Civil Engineers.
It’s never going to end well. Some nice lanes but hills down to the sea from every angle. There’s a road club who go out regularly, but it’s not the Netherlands. E bike officer maybe.
Nice place though. I’d start by sponsoring a decent UCI road race. Just to get the place on the map.
Not worked in Jersey for years but wouldn't you need to have 5 years residency to apply for this sort of position (maybe things have changed).
> Great place to live for a few years of you can afford it.
+ 1
Why would anyone have a parking space?
Especially a cycling officer!
Lead from the front and all that.

🤣🤣 if only….
After a week of cycling you will have ridden all the roads and trails on the island, then be left with the cheeky bits and that will cost you your job. Im out.
If you ask me, they've already got someone for the job, just advertising it to fulfil political requirements...
Yes, as a general rule to work in Jersey you need to have 5 years residency for most jobs - you can get exemptions if you can prove there is no-one on the island who is able to do the role. This has already been advertised locally and attracted a lot of queries, but no-one qualified.....
Do we need to have such a role? I don't think so, there are far more important things that need to get resolved first (if want a laugh, google Jersey new hospital - couldn't make this up!)
We unfortunately have a history of recruiting "experts" from the UK, who get paid a fortune, make a total mess of it, then get given a golden handshake after 3-4 years (Look up Charlie Parker - CEO).
Still, our cliff paths are awesome for single track and we've got some sweet small woods for such a tiny place.
@philstone have they decided where the Hospital is going yet or is it still on wheels? lol
Have spent a lot of time in Jersey - my Wife is from there and our Daughter was born there.
The reason we're in England is mainly property prices, but seeing how the Island is now run my wife has no desire to ever go back to live.
It is a lovely place to visit though - although that now costs a small fortune!
Kind of.. Planning has been passed for the Overdale site, but its still being argued. We've got elections next week so no doubt that'll be cause for another delay!
