hi

Ok so in my eternal quest to discover whether or not the Tracer could be my ideal 'do it all' bike, I have a few questions . .

The reported rear-end flex, how much of an issue is it (i'm a big guy @ 15 stone).

Secondly has anyone ever used them for occasional DH, how did it cope?

I'm not a full-on DHer but like to dabble!

Thanks!

Same sort of query on there ^^
Apparently the 2nd gen Tracer's (this years) are better than lst years. Wouldn't have thought they would be suitable for DH. Maybe an SS or Uzzi VP would be better for that. There are threads on the SS and Uzzi VP and build weights on that site as well.

Edit - Thats you on MTBR asking about it, isn't it?

this thread would suggest not....

can't see the attraction of a bike with a flexible rear end, and known alignment issues myself.

intense is the boutique stoner brand isn't it?

curly68 - yep that mtbr thread is me 🙂

Yep I saw that thread on here below re the tracer - worryingly the guy saying it's flexy turns out to be the same guy that I was considering buying one secondhand from!

I realise that the Tracer isnt an ideal DH bike but I really only dabble occasionally and my current foes fxr (and my old giant reign) coped well enough with it.

As i've mentioned in previous threads I'm just hoping the Tracer could cope with the rough stuff as well as my current bike whilst being considerably lighter (my fxr is 34.5 lbs at the moment). . .

I was looking at a tracer among others for the same role as you, but kept coming across those reported issues when I was researching it, so I have crossed it off my list. Only the nomad, the new reign x (which is top of the list at the moment, if I can find one, and the pivot firebird if i can find a good deal on a frame are left.

I have used mine for uplift days at Cwmcarn and it has been fine. I'm only 165lbs and have swapped to a coil shock on the rear. Never noticed any problems with rear flex. I think its probably the best all round bike I have had. I mainly ride trails but do dabble in DH and the tracer is fine, it will easily keep up with and overtake some DH specific bikes

yeah its a shame because i love the look of the tracer and it seems to get good magazine reviews etc.

I used to love my old original Reign so maybe the new Reign X is worth a look - any idea of the frame weight?

down to the rider, not the bike surely?

yeah I think the whole performance thing is a bit subjective, however I don't want to go for the Tracer and be disappointed in how it feels..
