Been thinking about getting a 29er to replace my Blur XC Carbon. Cant really make up my mind on what to get. The new Intense Spider 229 has caught my eye, but do you think 120mm travel on a 29er is going to be a tad over kill when i want to race on it?
Dont do a great deal of racing, but going to do Big Dog this year, as well as a few of the southern XC races.
Also moving up to cambridge mid this year so want a bike i can use locally round there.
I also have a Intense Tracer set up 1 x 10 speed with Fox 36s on the front. so dont want it too close to this.
Travel isn't the issue. Weight and geometry is.
seems to have a 70deg head angle, which seems to be inline with the Santa Cruz tallboy. with a weight about 6-6.5lbs, so its about a pound heavier than the tall boy.
Ideally looking at a total weight for the bike around the 24-25lbs mark.
for a good enduro racing 29er within a reasonable budget have a look at the salsa spearfish or the titus rockstar from on-one.
Whats wrong with another Blur XC as its a warranty replacement ?
If you're intent on getting a 29er then have a look at the Jet9 from Niner as its their FS XC race bike. The bits you've got on the Blur will build up an awesome one.
They also do it in glow in the Dark Raw finish so we'll all be able to see you next time you retire from a race in the middle of the night 😉
If you want carbon then look at the Cannondale Scalpel with a carbon lefty fork. Looks like an awesome XC race weapon 😈
Couple of things,-whats happened to the blur if its a warranty replacement, and if you liked that then the Tallboy with 100mm forks would build up not much heavier and are very quick and capable.
