Has anyone had their integrated headset surfaces re-machined? I have continuing problems with my integrated headset making an awful cracking sound on braking and landings since I accidentally ran it loose on a very rocky day when a new fork crown was bedding in. I was thrilled to find out that, if I glue it all up with bearing retainer, it cures it for a week or so. Annoyingly though, this eventually fails (usually after a heavy landing).
I see park tools sell a re-machining kit for integrated headsets ( http://www.parktool.com/blog/repair-help/headtube-reaming-and-facing - about 3/4 of the way down).
Has anyone used it? What were the results? Does anyone know a shop in the south east that has this kit and experience using it? Anyone had this problem and solved it in a different way?
I'm wary of going to the stronger bearing retainer (the stuff you can't disassemble) when the lower headset bearing is a wearing part and I would be unable to use heat to get it out (it's a carbon frame with bonded in cups...).
Thanks,
Nobody had it done/ know anyone who can do it?
