Second post of the, technical issue solved, life admin question now!
Had some bikes stolen last Christmas, Aviva were excellent and paid out. Renewal time and the premium is over double last years. Sort of fair enough, was expecting 50% or so. Now over 900 including buildings. 4 bikes ranging from 2 at the 5k cap and two cheaper road bikes.
Most companies won't touch us as new customer due to the claim or come out with a quote over £1500 (thank you LV).
Anyone been in this position and can offer any options?
Thanks
Sorry haven't been in this position but we will be next year. Looks like an extra kick in the nuts as punishment for being burgled.
If I find a solution I will let you know!
I suspect its the theft that's the issue - a lot of people seem to get broken into again a few months later(when bikes have been replaced).
In 2020 I switched from Aviva to ESure, but then wrote a bike off the week before the switch. Aviva were excellent with the claim, and when I rang Esure it added about 10% to the premium.
Yep, the theft is the problem. Just hope there is a better option out there!
Doesn't solve the OP's immediate problem but lessens the blow a wee bit.
I used a cashback site when I did my house insurance, got 25% back, about £50 in my case, would be more for the OP. Would still cost loads, but at least a wee bit less, maybe a couple of hundred off if your premium is really horrific, although the full amount needs paid in the usual way before the cashback comes through a couple of months later
https://www.quidco.com/raf/10611715/ That's my refer a friend thingy, you get another fiver if you use that. I used Aviva, they are on there along with a few others so worth a look
Try phoning up. The agents often have some discretion and enjoy talking to someone who isn't lying (happens about once a month) so may knock a bit off.
Have you tried separating the bikes from the rest of your cover? I've now insured my bikes with Barclays on their own and kept the rest of my cover with Aviva. You could also try Laka, who only do bikes on a sort of community claim scheme where the price reflects the actual cost of everyone's payouts.
Thanks will take a look at tye cash back and a separate policy.
