You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Just moved on to a Paradigm Veo insluin pump and it seems to be brilliant...first week and my bloods are still up and down as I get the dosage settings sorted so I'm not meant to do any exercise.
So as I've been following that rule, I'm now wondering how users of an insulin pump carry them when biking?
I see they do a waist belt thing that is probably going to work, but I also though in a chest pocket with the infusion set going through the headphone socket (assuming it would fit).
If on the waist, where would it sit? round the back would get skelped by a backpack (I'm guessing), the sides should be fine but if you come off then it is more susceptible to being skelped/squashed and on the front if likely to press into your gut.
So, for existing pump users...how do you carry your's when biking? Also, do you carry any spare kit for it? I've trying to think (apart from piece of mind) why I'd need to carry any spare reservoirs/infusion sets if I knew the device was working before I set off. Only real reason I can think of is if I crash and manage to snap the hose and would need to replace it - how likely is this (assuming the hose is tucked away under your cycling gear)?
Very daft questions but until I'm all stable on this new 'toy', I'm not risking the exercise as the past 2 days I've had very long hypos as the background dosage was a wee bit too high, so suspect exercising just now would through me right off course!
I will ask my colleague at work tomorrow (& get back to you when i can I'm afraid) he wears his over his left hip (dorsally) and he does tons of walking. Presumably just the same position that would be good for you! He got his a few years back and hasn't looked back ! 🙂
Will see what he says....
Thanks...hip is what im thinking but if (when!) I fall, I want to try to minimise any potential damage.
Cheers.
Spoke to him this morning about some advice - he either wears his 'on' his hip, lumbar region, when at work. When out walking he clips of to his back pack. He said there is a pouch you can get for it but from the sounds of it, they are soft and not so protective. We are fairly physical at work so presumably over your hip would be best while out cycling.
I was wondering if you could rig a simple, tougher case for it for that extra protection too?!
Sorry that that's all I can give you. Although was cheekily tempted to just say "just dont fall off!" 😀
Good luck! 💡
Cheers for the info...all helps...I'll see if I can attach it to my bib shorts and see how that fairs.
Thanks.
