Looking for a lightly insulated ,light, low pack size vest/gilet/bodywarmer - in stock in large

Was looking at the OMM Rotor but its discontinued/out of stock

are there anything similar with an active cut and windproof rather than a lounging cut and not windproof such as the alpkit or rab offerings

and the endura offering is out of stock all over the place.

Salomon drifter is a contender

Any other ideas ?

I believe the Galiber offering is highly thought of, and reasonably priced if you wanted something bike specific.
From a more generic perspective, I use a Montane Prism vest - packs down suitably small, very warm. Maybe slightly short for riding but does everything else for me.

Not sure if your looking for on or off the bike. I got a Sportful Giara Thermal Gilet recently and its great, my favourite piece of clothing.

I've got the Galibier one and really like it. Also worn it off the bike and good for hiking.

Me and my GF have the Galibier that was recommended on here. It really is great. Mine is a large and will stuff into a big toptube bag with other bits.

Their service is really good and they are good people to deal with

Mountain Equipment Switch vest is well worth a look. It’s long in the body and packs small enough for jersey pockets.
I found the Galibier kit a bit cheap feeling; seams not straight, loose hems and the like.

That Switch vest looks bob on for use on the bike - Polartec Alpha, the stuff they use in the front of it is amazing stuff, wicks really well, dries super fast and is just warm enough for wearing on the move in cool conditions. I've used a few jacket versions of it and ime it's the best active insulation out there atm. Way better than any sort of 'puffy' type down or synthetic I've tried.

Not as warm for standing about in, but that's the compromise you make. I see that Wiggle is doing DHB Polartec Alpha gilet as well. It's not cheap stuff, but it does work really well.

i agree I'm well covered for standing about, its being active I'm worried about - but i do not want to over heat.

I'm in town on wednesday with the wife , ill go for a look at tiso and cotswolds and see whats about. the DHB and the Mountain Hardware are the same price.

the pockets in the back of the DHB pique my interest but the reviews on the fit/packsize are not super favourable nor is the lack of an advertised weight....

Have you thought about "hybrid" jackets Terry? There are quite a few with an insulated body, windproof sleeves. Some have front panel only insulation. If been looking myself at them recently.

e.g.

Best.

Decathlon one was on sale for bargainous prices recently

I have 3 insulated vests for use on the bike (have more for off...)
- rab strata vest - polartec alpha fill
- adidas terrex gilet - primaloft on the front, stretchy softshell on the back
- rapha insulated brevet - used for commuting, polartec alpha fill. Most most days at the moment, put a windproof over the top on very cold trips but it's fine with a LS base and LS jersey in single figures

while thats a sound theory it doesnt really fit with my plans for layering.

Im looking at synthetic LS base layer with my soft shell on the outside.

then go for the vest over the top at night.

i may reevaluate .....

Arcteryx atom is well worth a look. I've had one for years (100 down to £50 on Sportpursuit) and it's one of my most used bits of clothing, on or off the bike.

If it's for over the top than any packable insulated vest in the right fill weight should work. I use a paramo torres gilet for muddy MTB as it's over thrown over a wet/muddy jacket. If I was buying now I'd probably get one in the 60g fill weight, I find that to be a good balance. Can be a bit warm for riding in uphill though (if you're planning to ride at night)

While that would be most excellent I suspect I'll probably have to use a shop to get it here on time.

I'm looking for it to wear on Saturday night at the strathpuffer

If it's for sale and you can post tomorrow. if you could fire me a price Inc quick post that would be ace

I am resigned to not finding a rotor vest in stock anywhere in large black.

Agree on getting something with Polartec Alpha - its by far the best insulator for active wear IME. I have a Mammut one

well the cheap skate in me is sorted thanks to djflexure thatll do me. Its not the arctic , it would be painful wearing a 100 quid vest in that impending mud fest.
