I like the look of the various insulated jackets in the latest mag but can't bring myself to spend that much. I appreciate cheaper probably means less warm and bulkier packing but I can live with that. Oh, and synthetic for preference, it will get wet a lot
Galibier
Decathlon or have a look on Sportsshoes.com - Higher State for £25. You might also find something on Sports Pursuit.
I'm a long-term fan of the Montane Prism. I wouldn't call it cheap but then I wouldn't pay the price of those jackets in the mag.
Decathlon. MrsIHN bought one there a couple of weeks ago, packs into one of it's own pockets, she's very pleased with it (and feels the cold), I think it was something like £35
I've been very pleased with my decathlon one, still going strong after several years of use.
Cheap you say?
Regatta or Tog24 fleece (£10) and Tog24 windproof (£20).
Another vote for Galibier, some very nicely made kit at reasonable prices
What's your budget?
Mountain warehouse, decathlon, trespass, dare2b, regatta
All fine, maybe not as featured or technical but will be warm
The decathlon one

£42.50 all in
I just bought the Madison DTE something or other for £40. Looks good but haven't had the option to try it yet
Sport Pursuit has an own-brand label called 'Fjern'. You can ignore the notional discounts, but the kit is pretty decent and includes a synthetic insulated jacket - they do other colours too, but you have to search for Fjern Octa as each colour gets its own page. Not 'cheap' exactly, but the Fjern stuff I've used has been well made using decent fabrics - 300g so pretty light etc:
