Hi,

Thinking of trading my garmin edge 305 to an 810, but wanted to ask the following.

a) Has anyone installed OpenStreet Maps onto the device?
b) Does the LCD screen work in bright sun light. The edge 305 display is visible in all brightness. It does say it is an LCD screen, but I just wanted to ask those who have an 810?

Thanks

What about if I corrected my post and said I meant Garmin Edge 810. Would I get more replies?

Also want to know whether I can install the OS maps that I paid £70 for through ViewRanger onto the Edge 810?

Thanks

Yes, you can install OpenStreetMap maps onto the Edge 800 or 810.
Easiest way is to use this website: http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/
Just pick the country you want, and it will give you a link to download a "gmapsupp.zip" file. Then unzip that, and copy the img file onto a folder named "Garmin" on a MicroSD card, and put it in the Edge.
Or see a more detailed how-to guide here: http://www.dcrainmaker.com/2013/05/download-garmin-705800810.html

Cheers Craig. Would you happen to know anything about installing OS maps onto the 810 as well. I was wondering whether OS maps will be of the same format regardless of whether you are installing them onto android or a garmin edge device.

Seems a shame for them to go to waste

The Edge will only work with OS maps in Garmin's own format.
So maps from Viewranger won't work. I don't think there's any way of converting them to Garmin format.
You would have to buy Garmin GB Discoverer or Garmin Birdseye Select if you want OS maps.

Putting OpenStreetmap on an Edge 800 is a case of downloading the file, unzipping it and copying it across to the relevant directory on the Edge when its connected via USB, really easy.
