As title put a gxp bb on my bike, pushed the cranks through and the chainset is far too close to the bb shell. are there any spacer available for this system and where do they go? inbetween the frame and bb or inbetween the bb and crank? any help greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Should have some little black rings, like oversize headset spacers, that fit between BB shell and the BB bearing cup itself. Frame, and paper in the BB you bought, should have specs needed to fit for clearance.

The spacer would normally go between the frame and bb, under the bb thread. Wasn't there any instructions with the BB?
I've had a gxp cranks in the past and there should be a gap between the top hat end of the BB and the cranks, I put a rubber O ring there to keep the tophat in place.

If you have a 68mm BB shell you need one spacer on the LH side and 2 on the RH side. They're 2.5mm spacers. If you have a 73mm BB shell you remove one from each side.

You definitely need at least one spacer unless you're using a BB mounted chainguide or front mech

Go see your LBS, they'll have loads. Don't call them oversize headset spacers, that's daft. They're no more like that than an M5 washer is an undersized headset spacer!

If it's a thread in gpx bb then no spacers for 73 shell and one each side for 68mm shell.
Some of the sram chainsets are made in different q factors and don't fit all frames but think that mostly the high end ones
