Not rode since the beginning of June. And then ended up injuring my Achilles ( none bike related) now this is two summer's where I've been injured. However this time unlike last year I just don't have a massive desire to get riding as quick as possible like last year.

Yet I know if I sell all my bikes and gear I'll regret it. Will the passion come back soon? I'm more interested in photography at the moment.

Anyone else get these low points?

How much I ride can vary but the passion never goes away

I think someone on here - possibly cinnamon girl - said the hardest part of any ride is the walk to your bike

What that means is once you are out there you always enjoy it but the inertia to do it can be hard to overcome.
I overcome thi sby just riding certain days...thems the rules.

Bingo!
I tore my Achilles in mid June and haven't ridden since - because I can't, not because I don't want to.
Tried a road ride 3 weeks which lasted a pathetic 9 miles as couldn't put any power through my left leg.
Missed a glorious summer's riding which pissed me off and left me feeling quite jealous of anyone I saw on a bike 😥
I think it will be a good while before I'm biking like I was prior to that.

If you've recovered, get out there and do it and be grateful you can!

If you don't want to ride then don't. If you do, then do. Up to you really, not what everyone else choses to do!
We can all tell you go and shred a trail centre but you might prefer to take a gentle ride into the countryside and take arty photos of lichen growing on a stone wall.
Read a few cycling blogs, look at some pictures of amazing things. At the end of the day the decision is yours...

Still not fully recovered. But the Orthopaedic boot came off two weeks ago. And was told to do some light cycling as well as my physio exercises. And I should be good to go in a fortnight so I'm told.

A lot of my lost interest is because I got addicted to Strava and over did it. The best ride was a cold windy day, headphones in and a slow pace.

:roll:I think the current inspirational guy on here atm is Ton. 😆
There are others who are very ill but still going/posted.
I turned 60 last month, on Fri afternoon I hiked and biked Snowdon with a bunch of 30/40yr olds. Rode Coed MBR on Sat and Gwydyr on Sun 😆 I could list my various aches, pains and asthma etc but.... 🙄
My mum passing away, dad being ill, wife being ill, work being in a state of flux etc the last couple of years have seen my biking deteriorate drastically. Every time my mojo comes back something comes along to knock me back again.
The weekend I had with the guys from http://fanylionracing.ning.com/ has given me the oomph to get out more.
Next up; http://www.dalbeattiehardrockchallenge.org/

What psling says is what I do. Too many riders now getting sucked into the Strava fold 🙄

When you feel like getting out and go for it, it'll feel good. Bound to be difficult coming back from an injury, but you will be blown away by how fun it is.

Plus as others have said, take the camera out.

Well Trekster, I'm a similar age to you, maybe we're beginning to mellow a bit! 😉
I get stressed about being stressed when I see lovely woodsy singletrack trails turned into straight lines and given a strava name whilst the original sweeps and curves are becoming overgrown secrets. Then I remind myself not to get stressed but to enjoy what I enjoy!
Don't let your injury and recuperation get you down. Grab a map and study some local routes, grab a simple camera without the complications of too much kit and get out for a shortish, slowish explore; road or trail, whatever. If you want to.

Had the dressing off today and it's eight 6.5 weeks post op. The initial injury was insertional Achilles Tendinitis and then a week and a half later it just went at work. Surgery three days later.
Feels better just tender and have been given the go ahead to cycle and physio.

I think maybe some short 4/5 miles off road rides

the greatest trick is to place your feet on the pedals and just ride.

I'm ill and frustrated at not really riding in a month I'd be horrible to be around if I'd not ridden since June...

I'm more interested in photography at the moment.

Not another one... 🙄

"Serious" Hobby photographers bore the tits off everyone, FACT!

Bicyclists are waaaay more interesting, more attractive to the opposite sex and are still able stop to take pictures if they want...

No ride is too short. Don't over think or prepare, just get a spare hour, grab your bike and ride around some woods. Leave Strava at home.

Going for a ride is almost always better than not going for a ride.

Cookeaa I'm not one of these serious amateur photographers but I do enjoy taking photos of my animals (Lizards and snakes) more for my pleasure than anything else.

Gonna do some exploring round Darwen. I only know the tower.

Listen OP I'll tell you how this going to go down...

You will find yourself "getting into" all of the following:

-Photography
-Guitar
-Evangelical Christianity
-Fine Coffee and associated gadgetry
-RC Car/Copter/Boats
-Creating your own DJ mixes (which nobody else ever hears)
-Home cinema
-Internet pornography
-Writing a collection of short stories (that are quite frankly shite)
-Fine dining
-Fine wines
-Cake Decorating
-Hacktivism
-Numismatics
-Evangelical Atheism

You will then realize it's been three to five years since you did any actual exercise, You've been hopeless at every fad you've picked up during that period, you are now 3 stone heavier than you thought you were and your missus might be considering dumping your tubby, fickle arse.
This will lead you to Panic buy an ill-suited, £3k Super-bike and then you'll come back on STW asking about tyres...

So we'll see you in 3-5 OK?... 😉
