I've not designed something new in a while (bike related at least) so inspire me with plastic things you wish you had but don't exist or are silly expensive!

I designed and printed some stick-on cable guides/clips recently. Bonded onto the right leg of my fork to carry the dynamo cable, so the dynamo light can be easily removed when using a different wheelset. Also printed a little wedge shaped thingy to go on the back of the seatpost to angle the rear light more horizontally, rather than pointing at the floor. Don't have a pic of either I'm afraid.

It would have been good to print my own but they aren't too bad a price, hard to get off once stuck on

There are some clever bits on https://www.thingiverse.com/aiber/designs , Stumpy01 of this parish printed me a few of the shifter boss covers a while back, there is a picture in this thread.

I printed some hand guards for my daughter's balance bike. They kept the wind off when we were out on cold days & stopped her whacking her knuckles on the door frames as she careered around the house

IMG_20190101_145815 by STW stumpy01, on Flickr

Also did some hose clamps for my Exotic forks - currently working on a new version.

I keep meaning to do a hose/cable clamp to stop two cables knocking together where they cross. I could probably just tape them together, but where's the fun in that?

I've got loads of ideas for stuff - it's just getting round to doing it!!

EDIT -

bikesandboats

Stumpy01 of this parish printed me a few of the shifter boss covers a while back,

Oh yeah! I forgot about those! Nice little design & they turned out alright.

stick-on cable guides/clips…to carry the dynamo cable

I could probably use a bag of those! 🙂

I’m sure I had three or four things in mind that could be solved with a 3D printer, but my mind’s gone temporarily blank.

Reba minimalist superlight lockout- because I like clean bars and don't lock/unlock a lot.

post a pic

I intended to put a small spring in between the cap and base but I found the PLA is just flexible enough that it's not needed. Now I pretend it was always supposed to be like that.

despite being into 3d printing for a few years now & having racked my brains, haven't come up with the must-have bike accessory yet!! Cable guides is a good idea, as is crud caps (will try and do some TPU ones for my Podium bottles!) Garmin mounts is the obvious, although not actually used a Garmin for almost a year now due to always riding local!!

Those ti cranks are another level though, guessing you didn't print them yourself?

That's given me an idea. The go-pro mount for my Halfords lights is sub-optimal - the part that bolts onto the light. It's too far back, so the light can slip downwards unless you tighten it up loads - especially the 500. It'd be quite easy to print a mount that anchors the light near the balance point. But then again, it might foul the stem...

I'd quite like a 'bleed cap' for my Hope Mono Mini levers that I can use with their CNC'd bleed cup if you are looking for ideas. Both 2006 and 2007 levers would be just dandy please 🙂

I've seen some brake caliper spacer blocks that have a space for one piston to move to allow easy exercising of lazy brake pistons. Rotate the block to get all 4 piston positions.

Gopro helmet visor / chin guard / airvent mounts?

Rear light mount for saddle rails?

Shock / frame sag measurement tool?

DIY spokey dokeys??

i think a tool storage under the seat is something that might be nice.

Chainstay protector / chain silencer thingy for older bikes without proper one from fabric, at least it's something I would be glad to have printed for my bike 😉

The list of printed things on my current road and mtb's are as follows:

Chain stay protector
Chain guide
Steerer Tube Wahoo mount (different on both bikes to match length and angle of stem)
Light adaptor for aero seat post so that the light doesn't notch to one side or the other.
Seat Mast adaptor to run a seat mast topper on top of the abovementioned aero seat post.
Rockshox Compression Adjuster
Rockshox and Fox volume spacers (both shock and fork)
Helmet light mount (specific for my light and my helmet)

If it's a plastic part then I just model it in Solidworks and then print it on the Markforged in Onyx material, solid fill.

I've always thought the triangular space formed by the support between the top tube and the seat tube of many bikes (e.g. Whyte T130) is begging for a storage box of some sort. Would mean the loss of "carry handle" functionality though!

A pair of stands that fold (maybe) to put under your bars when you turn the bike upside down...

I've got one of the piston blocks mentioned above for my Hope E4's. Great bit of kit.
Saddle rail light mounts are another good shout as is the sag measurement tool for non RS shocks or forks.

Bar end plugs that can hold a tubeless repair stabby thing?

What about bearing specific press 'drifts' for using with threaded rods to install frame bearings? No idea if the material is strong enough for that purpose though.

A tool that is shaped to you wheel rim internal cross section to help installing tubeless tape (pretty niche and not often needed though I guess).

Some nice ideas there!

Love the cranks and the EDC, that's the kind of thing that gets me inspired, as useful as cable clips etc are it's not what makes me hook up to the extra screens and fire CAD up!

Things I've done so far include fork mounts which bolt to the floor of a vehicle for attaching bikes to and a pipe that fits in your bars for consumption of, let's say, 'herbal' products

The saddle storage thing is something I've considered, would have to be a soft material to stop it cracking when hit by things

I did a couple of topology optimised titanium stem top caps.

Just to test support strategies for easy removal and minimal downsurface damage.

There’s a complex internal structure that you can’t quite see.

the triangular space formed by the support between the top tube and the seat tube

I’m less a fan of using that space because it comes in handy for shouldering, but I do think the space behind it is ripe for storage. I’ve tried hacking a mini rack and I also tend to strap a little dry bag directly on there…

I have considered making a cap for the tubeless repair stabby thing so it doens't puncture my saddle bag.

However I'm lucky if I can get anything to print currently.

blanking plug for exposure light bar mounts so they don't take chunks out of you when you crash with no light installed.

My shopping list would be:

Some sort of two part hand plunger that you can drop a 6805 bearing into, pack the other half with grease and then plunger it down to purge the old grease with fresh. Roughly wipe it out and its ready for next time. With a chamfer or some slight steps it would probably fit 2 or 3 similar sized bearings without causing excessive grease wastage. It would have a central support to block the centre of the bearing and a space for the old grease to go. Anythings got to be better than manually pressing grease through the race and getting grease everywhere.

A little block that screws into what I think is a Rohloff cable guide, to stop a slightly slack singlespeed chain from hitting the underside of my chainstay. Although I think this would probably be fairly easy to make out by cutting and drilling some hard nylon so should just give it a go myself.

My request would an accessory mount that makes use of the extra bottle cage bosses that are becoming popular on new frames. Something like a Wolftooth b-rad plate that also has clips that’ll hold 2x25g co2’s.

@sl80 thin brackets that hold 2x co2 and go under a cage are already available cheaply. Just put your accessory holder of choice on over it.

Can anyone here print in ABS or a with a reinforced filament? I have a couple of bits that my cousin would normally print for me but his printer is out of action and he's busy with a newborn too.

I made one by cutting an old block. Certainly quicker than printing one!

Random(ish) shaped blocks that match the holes in the back of a RockShox fork bridge that you can bond in to use a bolt-on mudguard.
