You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Hi everyone,
I am going to travel to the Tweed Valley with my family for couple of days in April, and I thought I should bring my bike and ride those trails.
It turned out, that the original date of the Scottish Enduro Series was modified and the event will be on 5-6th April, and that is the same weekend when we will be there.
Do you guys think it will be still possible to ride the park trails in Innerleithen and/or Glentress? I guess even if they use some part of the trails, there will be still plenty of place to ride, am I right?
Do You think that weekend will be crowded? Might be an option to participate, but it might be out of my league. 🙂
We will travel from Norway and have already booked the tickets, accommodation and everything is settled. Actually I am happy for this event, I am sure it will be a great atmosphere, however I am a bit concerned about the possibility to ride in the bike park.
Any opinion?
Thanks!
There is a broad spectrum of riders take part in these events so if you've done any of that kind of riding before you'll be fine. If you do the race you'll get to ride trails you might not otherwise find although if you can get somebody off here to show you around that would be the best way to do it. Glentress never feels that busy once you get away from the car parks. Enjoy.
If the Enduro is at GT, then Inners will be empty - unless they've linked them for a stage.
And tbh both are big enough to 'hide' in.
EIP if you need a guide :-), I live nearby.
I'll be PM'ing you about the conditions for the weekend then lol
If the Enduro is at GT
The Enduro is at Innerleithen. It's likely that big chunks of the XC route will be out of bounds, and several of the un-official tracks too.
There's plenty to ride at Glentress and the surrounding areas though
What Legend said. Large areas of Innerleithen will be used which may necessitate closing of the hill to non racers. You could always join in 😀 or get b r to show you around Glentress and natural trails.
Dude, skip the trails and tear down Gypsy Glen drove road instead! I rode it and it was a route in MBR in November I think, it's head and shoulders above the trails and you'll be lucky to see a sole the whole time.
If your still fit after that you can spin along the cycle path to Inners and do the black XC route for a few woops to finish.
skindog - where's the black xc route at Inners? - I've only ever found the red one.
It's really just a loop off the red, rather than a whole route. Cool though, assorted heaps of rocks to ride over, adds some much needed variety.
I don't think I'd bother with innerleithen when there's a race on, there's usually still ways of making it work but with horrible climbs and sometimes missing bits of the trails, and inners doesn't have a massive amount of red trail anyway. Lots of other riding in the area though.
paddler, Northwind is spot on.
Phrophet, great photo, awesome. What are the conditions like at Glentress right now? I've committed to taking the wife for a training ride around the blue loop and once I've tired her out i was going to switch bikes and have a thrash round the red loop.
Hey skindog, cheers for that.
Parts of the Upper Blue are still closed as a result of the storm damage a few weeks back, update from 7Stanes site is;
"Trails: Mostly open, except Upper Blue Route and Pennels Vennel (post 28 - 13) on Red Route, closed (7 days/week) due to tree felling operations until end of Feb 2014.
Note: Betty Blue section is open to ride but Upper Blue Route is closed as a loop because no access is possible back to Buzzards Nest carpark from post 27 (Blue Velvet, adjacent forest road and Berm Baby Berm closed due to tree felling operations)."
So after Betty Blue it would be fireroad for yer wife or a gentle introduction to some of the Red.
Other than the Pennels Vennels closure the Red is all good, always ridable whatever the weather, just matters how wet you mind getting 😀
Just in from a lap of the black- business as normal, baggy but lovely, and a very good advert for waterproof socks. Not a single tree out of place and just a tiny bit of snow at the end of the first big climb.
Wasn't really raining last night but still ended up wetter than an otters pocket, some very deep puddles. Haven't been for months though so there were big grins all round.
Guys,
Thanks for the advice! We have just arrived to Innerleithen. According to the 7stanes homepage the trails in Innerleithen will be closed this weekend. I am planning to check the trails in Glentress on Saturday and Sunday, but no plans for Friday. Anybody is interested in riding in the area tomorrow and/or this weekend? I will dheck the map of the local trails at our accommodation. Might check Gipsy Glen, what skindog suggested.
We are riding tomorrow, out of Selkirk.
We'll be up on the 3B to Minch ridge at some point, so if you see 2 guys on Ti HT's say hello and we'll happily point you in the direction of some trails.
If you want to join us, pm me (EIP).
Gypsy Glen from Innerleithen is good, as you could ride into Peebles, climb into Glentress on the black, then drop down on the Deliverance trail and cut out there towards Cardrona, taking the back road to Innerleithen. It's a good day out.
Well, instead of Gypsy Glen I decided to try the Three Brethren - Minch Moor route on Friday (40km).
I found a gpx file on http://www.hawickteviotdalemtb.co.uk/routes/4580552321 in case if anyone is interested.
I started in Innerleithen and finished with a well deserved ride down on the red trail in Innerleithen. The route was quite challenging with lots of long rocky climbs and muddy trails up in the hills, but amazing terrain, spectacular views and all together great fun! 🙂 Highly recommended!
On Saturday and Sunday I rode the blue and red trails in Glentress.
It is an amazing place to ride. Thank you guys for the advice!

You must've been a lot later than us, as at 11am there was very little visability so we kept to the southern side.
Lots more trails around 🙂
