You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I had a puncture the other day and bought a new inner tube as the old one had far too many repairs.
I've removed the old one and pumped the new one enough to form it's shape and placed it onto the rim.
I'm struggling to keep the valve far enough out of the wheel to get the pump connected. (This is with the tire already put back.
Any tips people, I know this is very amateur but would love to get back on my bike.
Thanks in advance.
It is a presta valve? Tube with a longer stem is what you need.
Nope it's a schrader
Can you press on the tyre/tube/valve from outside to force the valve out while you attach the pump?
On the other hand, is there enough showing to get a screw-type pump to fit (an old school Mt. Zefal or similar)?
Best bet long term is to replace with long presta valve. You can get small inserts to fill the schreader-sized rim hole, but it's not vital.
thanks, so should I pump it with the tire on? or off to the side?
As you said in the first post sounded fine.
Pump enough to get shape to the tube.
Put tube inside the tyre.
Place tyre and tube on rim.
Fit everything fully with the valve coming through the hole in the rim.
Try and push from the outside to get the valve to protrude as much as possible through the hole while you attach the pump.
Thank you AlexSimon, I've got a hand pump and will invest in a proper pump at the end of the month.
