Hi all, like many people I’m struggling with supply issue of MTB parts! I’m trying to do a 29’er drop bar MTB build (don’t judge!) but finding a affordable set of 29’er wheels is very difficult! I don’t want anything fancy but gone are the days where CRC, Planet X etc has budget wheel sets for not much over £100!? Any ideas where to look? Thanks!

Superstar currently have 25% off everything with the code NY2021, you might find something on there. I've had a couple of pairs of SS wheels they've both been good, including some of their own V6 hubs.

Make sure you know your axle types and think about whether you want to buy a set of wheels that can easily switch between axle types, some sets come with adapters and others charge extra for them.

https://www.merlincycles.com/mountain-bike-wheels-75321/?stock=in-stock have some, depending upon what you need.

If you need a boost set I've got the stock ones off my MTB sitting in a box, not light but hardly used, i29 rims and generic (presumably Novatec underneath) hubs.

QQ on this:

I don't seem to be able to select Shimano 12 speed as an option for the rear hub. Is that because it's the same as the 11 speed or that Shimano haven't less SS use it yet?

Thanks all. Very useful tip on Superstar. i ordered a set of mavic 821 on V6 hubs for a knockdown price - very pleased.

Thanks for your offer @bails but I’m 135/100 QR and axle mix so wouldn’t have worked but appreciate the offer!

Cant speak about SS having microspline but shimano 11 speed is not the same as 12 speed, i have both 11 and 12 speed on different bikes.

Shimano 12 speed uses the microspline hub.

You can get a Sunrace 12 speed cassette for non micro spline hubs. I’ve done it and not encountered any issues.

Edit, although I can get micro spline for my hub. Does buying Superstar lock you into non micro spline options?
