I have a SRAM attack shifter and an old X-4 mech on my HT.

I cannot for the life of me get the gears to index correctly. It's rideable, but skipping some cogs.

Is there a knack to it?

Probably because Attack shifters are designed for use with Shimano mechs and not 1:1 SRAM mechs.

I thought they were interchangeale on the attack mech.

THat would answer that problem though. Need to get another mech.

AN 8 speed shimano mech, that will be fun.

As long as it's not 10speed(whole new can of worms there), pretty much any 7/8/9speed Shimano mech will work.

Excellent.

I just remembered that the missus's bike, which is unused due her enormous belly, has an 8 speed Alvio on it. That should do the job for now.

Ha Ha - my wifes bike is exactly where I sourced an XT rear mech from last weekend!

It's just a collection of my old parts hung on a small frame anyway.
