It's all done via PR agents or the journo's contacts into the bike trade. No more technically considered than a sunday supplement's '10 summer dresses' feature. Simply good exposure for a brand.

I remember when I was amazed that a guy had a £400 MTB. I was 10, but most non-cyclists have the same view.
