Hi all
I have a tacx turbo T2240 which im using zwift through a 75" TV in the garage on apple TV. I'm finding the zwift on-screen cadence is reading almost double my actual cadence which is a bit off putting when its telling me to spin slower constantly. I'm getting round it by also recording using my garmin 810 with the garmin magnetic cadence/wheel speed sensor. I'm guessing its down to my pedal stroke as the turbo calculates it from the dead spots during the rotation. I seem to get better readings at higher power outputs during intervals so i guess my pedal stroke changes. For reference if i link the garmin to the turbo i also get the same high readings as zwift. I also only have a garmin heart rate monitor so this cant be connected to the apple tv.
What I would ideally like is zwift to do everything accurately so i have only one output file containing all the data. At the moment the file Zwift creates shows me power, inaccurate cadence and no heart rate. My garmin file shows me everything. Power, heart rate and cadence.
Whilst re-reading what i have written above I think i should just carry on recording on the garmin and ignore the zwift data. Its just annoying having to stare at the cadence on my garmin instead of the big screen.
Any other ideas? Any thoughts on the ant+ Bluetooth bridge on the 4iii heart rate monitor?
Thanks
Wahoo RPM cadence sensor? Clips onto your shoe strap or a crank arm and works with either BT or ANT+. It's what they bundle with the Kickr. But I'm not quite sure what you're asking...
I'm guessing you have to select the turbo as the cadence source in Zwift, in which case you'd just choose the Wahoo RPM instead or is it more complicated than that?
I dont really know what Im asking either. just wondering if anyone had any suggestions on how to get a more accurate cadence into zwift. Maybe by using the magnet garmin sensor through a ant+ bluetooth bridge like the one on the 4iii heart rate monitor.
Just had a look at the DC Rainmaker intro to Zwift and Apple TV. Apparently it can only handle two simultaneous Bluetooth connections, but you can get round that by using the Zwiftlink app on a smartphone to connect additional sensors:

It's worth watching the video, if only because he sounds disarmingly like Kermit the Frog... No idea how to embed video these days...
I am using the zwift link and its brilliant. Works flawlessly. So good that i wouldn't recommend anyone buy a cheap laptop or upgrade a pc to cope with zwift. I haven't tried to connect anything to it though as everything i have links through the apple tv at the moment
Its the fact that i could add another deice through the mobile link that made me think of the 4ii hr monitor ant+ bridge.
im thinking i could get my power from the turbo, cadence, from the garmin magnet via ant plus through the hr strap bridge. and heart rate from the hr strap.
Its all getting a bit over complicated
Ah okay, I see what you're saying. Anyway, if you do want a Bluetooth cadence sensor to short-cut things, the Wahoo one works fine for me and is minimal faff to use. I just pop it on my shoe rather than having it semi-permanently on the crank-arm. Have fun!
I dont think the T2240 reports cadence so i assume zwift is doing it with a virtual cadence. If that is the case then i would definately not be relying on that, it will be as inaccurate as using a dumb trainer. Just get a wahoo cadence sensor for £30 and that will sort it, they work brilliantly.
Thanks, I hadn't seen those wahoo cadence sensors. I have just ordered one. It looks like it will get me part way to where I want and I can add a bluetooth heart rate sensor at a later date.
Thanks again
If you have a Giant frame, they now make a ride sense bluetooth and ANT sensor. This will sent speed and cadence via bluetooth. I now use a Kickr and cadence sensor to an iPad mini 4, as it's a bit to wet for use with Apple TV and projector in the lounge!
Anyway the Wahoo sensors are great for dumb trainers, the cadence works perfectly but is harder to swap between bikes than the Garmin magnetless sensor. And the mini iPad is a bit small. I've run it with a normal one and that's better. A TV would have me looking up a bit more than I want!
I think the Zwift Link is a bit of a kludge to be honest. I like the straightforward iPad and apple TV app instead.
