I have some of the original hope cranks and under full power they’re just catching the drive side chainstay. The BB spacer is setup correctly as per Hope’s spec sheet, so 1x2.5mm on drive side. Can I add an additional drive side spacer, or will that balls everything?!
I don't know those cranks, but generally no you can't change the width of cranks by adding spacers or otherwise. Only on cranks with a separate axle (e.g. square taper) can you change the BB to one with a different length axle.
I’m not sure that’s right. I have added and removed spacers from shimano ht2 bbs many times to get a desired chainline.
I would add a spacer to the bb shell and see if it helps.
You can try to move the cranks further over to the driveside, by adjusting the BB spacers (less spacers on the non-driveside, more on the driveside).
But no, you can't increase the Q, as sl2000 said.
[if you were desperate, you could also grind off a mm from the driveside crank arm, but that's after a couple of red wines...]
[chainline isn't the same as Q]
They offer longer axles to alter Q-Factor.
Thanks all. Perhaps Q factor isn’t the right term, but I’m not after altering the chainline either (though I know that adding an additional spacer will shunt that across a bit). I just wondered if adding a further spacer to the bottom bracket would cause issues with a lack of engagement on the splines. Guess the only thing to do is to try it!
Sillyoldman has added vital info: there is a replaceable axle on hope cranks, so you need to get a longer axle and then add more spacers.
