Hi guys,
So I managed to put a huge set of scratches on my fork stanchion the other day (Fox 36 Rhythm 160mm). Not the end of the world as I was planning on upgrading to either Fox Performance Elite or Factory in the new year anyway.
My current forks are 160mm travel, however I have found a REALLY good deal on a set of 170mm Performance Elite forks. Realistically, how much difference will the 10mm make in the real world? I understand it will slacken the head angle by about half a degree, but surely if i just run a bit more sag it will almost balance out? Bike is a 2020 Canyon Spectral.
Any advice appreciated!
Just do it and if it's terrible you can either add a slackset to lower the bike again or change the air shaft for a 160mm job.
Just done the same, 150mm Revelations on the Turbo Levo. Got a pair of new 140mm 36 Factorys at half price and had a 160mm air shaft fitted. Dont think you will notice the difference.
You will hardly notice the difference, especially if you run a bit more sag. Went from 120mm to 140mm on my old full suss and it was better if anything.
I reckon you may just notice a slacker HA, not the travel. A good service is noticeable, as is fiddling with tyre pressure, but 10mm travel - I don't think so.
Just done the same on my bike, HA gone from 66 to 65.3 degrees. Geometry calc can tell you exactly what will have changed.

To be honest I would welcome the slacker HA as at 66 degrees its on the fairly steep side of an 'All Mountain' type bike... think I will go for it!
