I’ve just got myself a large inbred 29er frame off the classifieds. Really pleased with it, in really good condition and a nice aggressive orange.

Starting to think about bits for it and I was wondering if I’d be able to fit 27+ wheels on it? Or if not how big a 29” tyre would I’ve able to fit in it?

I’m guessing I’ll be limited by the QR thing

650b+ doesn't fit, the stays are quite wide but also quite straight IIRC so they don't bend out in the right place. You could go 650b+ on the front though with the old carbon forks (not the monocoque ones).

As for a build, On-One carbon forks, 80mm stem, 29" wheels, and singlespeed as anything else is surely sacrilege.  As for tyres, I'd stick with really good winter tyres like SPecialized Purgatory's, because it's a singlespeed so it's natural home is sloppy winter night rides, and the frame doesn't really reward zippy tyres! If you went 650b+ upfront it would need to be something equally aggressive and I don't think that quite exists yet (like a 27.5x3 Surly Bud).

I'd stick with 29 all round, as it'll fit fairly big tyres depending on the rim. I friend fitted a 650b x 2.5 tyre in the rear of one but it was tight, so no B+. Get some Krampus forks for versatility, ride quality is good on them and tons of clearance for 3 inch tyres and the right a-c. Not too expensive either.

EDIT: Same friend could fit a 2.4 Ardent in the rear of his 29 inbred, I have had a 2.25 Smorgasbord in the rear with room to spare.

I had 29x2.4 vee rubber tires in the back of mine, wouldn't go any bigger than that tbh.

it's the gap at the chain stays that limits tyre width.

2.4 is fine if dry; but not enough mud clearance in the clart.

Rides best a little XC imo. Slammed stem widish bars. fork 100mm max, 80 mm better, rigid best.

I've always had Conti Race King 2.2 tyres in mine and there's loads of space on the fork but only a bit of clearance on the rear chainstays. I imagine a 2.3 would be ok in some brands but surprised to hear anyone has managed a 2.4
