My google foo appears to be completely failing me. After my rear wheel disintegrated on my pinnacle I need to find a new rear wheel - i'm following up on the warranty but i'm assuming that'll take a while and i need the bike to cycle to work.

I thought i'd found what I needed from merlin - but like an idiot I didn't spot it was 10speed only and 10speed road hubs are a different width to 11speed road hubs (unlike mtb). So now need to send that back. Great.

Seemingly it's impossible to find a 11spd disc rear wheel that's suitable for a commuter bike (i.e. robust - 32 hole or more and will take a 28mm gatorskin) and costs less than 150 quid. At this point i'd even consider a wheel set (bolt thru 12mm at the front).

Can anyone help? (I don't have a local bikeshop / time to go and find one - I just want to buy it on the net!)

I've tried: Tredz, Merlin, Decathlon, Halfords, Rutland, Cycle Surgery, Evans, Wiggle/CRC...

Edit- I realise its 28 spoke, but it's as close as I could find without spending ages looking

32 holes are deeply unfashionable when it comes to pre-built disc wheels. Just pick up a Shimano RX010 (if qr needed) or Shimano RS170 (for bolt through). They'll be plenty reliable enough, especially if you keep on top of hub servicing.

Majority of those won't have an 11spd road freehub

Ahh - ignore me, not 33h. But mine have taken plenty of off road abuse without complaining.

Edit- doh not disc either, ignore me.

As I mentioned on your other thread, when my wtb rim started cracking around the spoke holes on my arkose I replaced it with dt swiss e1800 wheels. Not cheap mind but stronger and lighter than the originals

Ah, true.  I use mtb cassettes on mine; forgot that road ones are wider

I had an issue with the 10s hub 11s gears thing. Found a solution in that you can use the 11-34 11s ultegra cassette on a 10s freehub. Not sure if this is any actual use to OP, but you can use a 10s (or 29er) wheel with 11s Shimano groupset if needs be.

Will you be fitting a large (32t+) size cassette by any chance? The 11 speed mtb cassettes fit a 10-speed mtb freehub (the largest cog 'overhangs' the freehub body). Could be a solution? The cog spacing is the same.

Really? The wheel I had earlier (deore hub) wasn't physically big enough for a 11spd....

Just pick up a Shimano RX010

How strong are they. I'm 78kg, my bike is 13kg, and my panniers are probably 10kg. Seems a lot for 28 spokes! I'm wary after my recent experience (could just be that wtb rims are shit I guess)

The 34t is dished over the flange, just as 11spd shimano mtb cassettes are. Cassettes with 32t or less won't work on a 10spd freehub.

Yes, the 11-34 fits a 10s freehub. Need a spacer on an 11s freehub. Mentions it here for example, and I can confirm it does indeed fit.

https://www.evanscycles.com/pinnacle-adventure-road-wheelset-EV288241, gets you a spare front as and Alex rims rather than WTB. Slightly over budget though.

is the rear quick release? Some 12x142mm rear hubs are convertible to qr, might open up a few other options.

WTB rims you say. The ones on my s150 were awful. Softest rims I’ve ever seen. Others have had similar experience. Obviously you rim will be a bit different spec, but maybe made from the same cheese.

Custom wheels on actionsports start at 164€, DT R470 on their own brand hubs (similar to other rebadged hubs).

Right looks like the main options are either the RX010 from shimano or the evans pinnacle wheel set.

The RX010 is cheaper (75 quid + 13 quid for a disc adaptor), but slightly concerned about whether it'll be strong enough.

The pinnacle wheel set will definitely be strong enough, but is basically twice as much, however it would prevent me having to ride on the wtb front wheel as well (which i have somewhat lost confidence on after the back one!).

Thoughts?

Slightly over budget but I'm currently selling a set of American classic hubs on mavic open pro disc. 11 speed, 32 holes. Set up at 15x100 front and 142x12 rear but also have a quick release for the rear. Adapters are available for any set up including boost. Pm me if you are interested
