Hi
I just wonder whether anyone can give me their experiences of buying stuff from the EU, and what duty/tax you had to pay? I guess if you've bought a Canyon or something similar.
The reason I ask is that I'm looking at getting a SUP soonish, and the manufacturing company is in the States, but they have a fulfilment centre in Germany for handling European orders. I asked them what that meant and received the following reply:
You will not have to pay import charges. This is why we have the fulfillment center in Germany in order to make things reasonable for our customers. The delivery time to the Uk depends on where you are, I attached a map in order for you to see shipping time. Shipping is free, but yes we have to charge local taxes/vat.
Their prices are good for the spec, but I don't want to get stung with surprise VAT or duty when the thing turns up at my door!
Would it be different for Canyon (as an example) as they're made/finished in Germany and so local taxes will have been paid? If anyone has experience of buying big ticket items from an EU country I'd like to know if you got clobbered. I have bought stuff from the States before and dodged the bullet somehow, but don't want to rely on luck here!
One more thing: please don't end up using this thread to discuss the pros and/or cons of SUPS, or the pros/cons of Brexit!
Parp!
Nothing to pay as of now, anything that is sold from the EU is taxed once and no fee's are due.
Ask again on the 30th of March though.
If you buy from outside the EU the local taxes should be removed and the UK will charge you the relevant taxes on the way in
If stuff has landed, cleared customs and then is sold and dispatched from Germany then any import duty will have been paid before you purchase it. Local VAT in Germany is 19%.
The whole Germany thing should be a method of reassuring you that the price you pay in Euro's + or inc delivery is the price without any hidden extras.... until the 30th March though... You should not need to pay any import duty from Germany.
^^^^^^
What they said.
Fill your boots until 29th March. Then ??????????
I have a guitar on order from Spain.
They have warned me that delivery after 29 March will be subject to what ever rules apply at that time but more worrying is nobody knows what the CITES situation will be.
It costs an extra £75 to get CITES certification.
Hmm, ok, this is as I thought then. Better pull the trigger sooner rather than later!
this is playing havoc with us in work.
We have millions of £ worth of engineering kit coming in from suppliers all over Europe during the next year and everyone is getting nervous.
