If you won't be climbing nothing, you will be climbing something.

I think it goes back to full days the first week of September but don't quote me on that.

Not back until mid-oct. It'll be 2 years since last visit.

At least ask the lockdowns and rising covid numbers will be a thing of the past.

Have you booked a taxi to get you from the carpark or the bottom of some of the trails back to the bus? (it's practically the law that UK uplifts can't both start at the bottom, and go to the top)

Weekdays are (I think always were?) normal, weekends and bank holidays are on the halfday thing.

BOOM!
12 climbs done... tonnes of sweet sticky food eaten....
Rode tonnes of trails... AC/DC... Dai hard.. plenty of reds and blacks...
Hands were feeling it by the end though!
The Beast of Burden is a great climb... the woody section in the middle was lush!

All in, just shy of 95km ridden.... 🤟🤟

No crashes.. no mechanicals...!

I can’t do 12 or even close, on the uplift. Awesome effort.

Not bad but looks like you need to go back and do some more to take the ‘local legend’ from Phil 😀

Just had a stalk on Strava, very impressive, tempted to give it a go myself, always wanted to do 10,000ft of climbing, BPW seems like a good venue for it.

It's brill... the climb is fantastic...
DO IT!

we broke the climb down into:
Gravel 1
Woods 1
Woods 2
Gravel 2...

But only cos we went a bit mad I guess!
The woods section was beautiful!!
And gravel 2 (the long straight rocky climb up) was a welcome sight as it meant you're nearly there!

Seriously impressive effort.

I've not ridden up for a few years, is the ride up quicker now? We were using the uplift track when we did it.

Good effort.. we were uplifting yesterday and only managed 8 runs - the buses seemed a bit slow getting going in the morning. Not been in a while and a nice chilled day was had, with the rain holding off until the last run..

Not bad but looks like you need to go back and do some more to take the ‘local legend’ from Phil

If that's who I think it is (Phil G?).. who else goes to Madeira and doesn't use the uplifts!? Nutter!

That's very impressive.
Did less than that on the eeb last Saturday, but you know, I'm working just as hard... 😉

You pedalled all that on a normal (non ebike) bike? You must be a proper machine - when I’ve pedalled we’ve split it into 2 and sessioned top or bottom to break the climb up. Can’t say I’ve ever enjoyed that climb....

Just out of interest, what bike were you riding?

Yeah!
I did it on my Specialized Stumpjuper 29er..
Barely stock... Reserve wheels, Fox 160mm forks, Cascade link and CCDB air IL..
This beastie!

Phil (Phil G) was on an Ibis Ripmo.

I quite like the 'type 2 fun' aspects of certain biking challenges... And I reckon Beast of Burden is a great climb (but I am a climbing pervert..). Not so steep you ever had to walk, but enough incline to get the elevation done fairly promptly!

Do you stay on the track proper, or take the steep straight on gravel track just after you cross the bottom uplift road?
Stiff section that.

Did you get the uplift down? 😂

Yeah... followed the proper climb all the way to the top.
Saw loads of E bikers cruising up teh fireroad (basically the climb traverses really close to the fireroads) but we were there for the climb... nice lush singletrack climb through the woods etc..

Did you get the uplift down?

Nah...!! I got several PRs on Dai Hard and a few other balck trails!! We were probably going TOO hard on teh runs down..but hey.. it's BPW!!!
Thankfully, no crashes or mechanicals!
Even did AC/DC and saw my nemesis jump.. we just rolled that one!

from the strava, looks like you tried it once.

thats my preferred route - for me thats the only section of pushing, I find it breaks up the climb, especially if starting from the very bottom.

But you are fitter than me, 10 is my best, and I did a few of the right hand trails (Hot stepper etc) so didn't go right to the top every time.

Seriously impressed. I think i managed about 7 or 8 when I was fitter but 12! No way and I am usual a strong climber

Nope...that was coming DOWN...
We arrived at about 0850, and did a climb/descent before the park opened.
I suggested we get our wrist bands, adn Phil said "let's do one more climb".. we got stopped JUST as we were about to enter the woods section, so we bombed directly down teh fireroad to the centre, got the wrist bands, and climbed again!
