Okay, although I originally thought I'd ride from a bit further North, being the fickle creature that I am I've changed my mind and I'm going to explore somewhere new.

So, I'm going to be riding around and about Castle Combe and it's surrounds, following a route from Tim Fenton's Cotswolds Mountain Biking book.

Start from Biddestone Village Hall (SN14 7BZ, directions here, wheels roll at 09:30

As before, riding/pootling around for three or four hours. Up some stuff, down some stuff, around and about some stuff. Probably have a pint after, maybe some crisps or nuts too. Hell, let's go crazy, we'll have crisps AND nuts.

Anyone fancy joining me?

I hope the RoW network around there is in better shape than that around Devizes. Not sure what the local RoW officer is doing but I encountered lots of unsigned rerouted tracks (seems if a farmer doesn't like a RoW across their field then they just fence the field off), an electric fence across a RoW and generally poorly maintained routes.

This was on a walking trip mind you 🙂

Well, I thought that would go without saying.

allthepies - dodgy signposting and electric fences are all part of the adventure 🙂

Last time I encountered an electric fence whilst out on my bike I fell on it. That was interesting...

Can't do this Saturday (actually doing route 12 later in the day) but would be interested to hear how good that route is (presumably route 10?). Anyone know if the trails in that area drain pretty well? Should be a couple of dry days before but we've had some biblical rain recently, I'm hoping the trails are less boggy than the Mendips ones get...

Fuzzy - can't remember if it's 10 or not, don't have the book to hand unfortunately, but it's whichever one that starts in Biddestone. Will post up post-ride what it's like.

Which one's 12?

not too bad, my default mid week winter ride picks up most of the trails

Friday morning bump.

Weather's looking nice, it might even be a pint in the beer garden 🙂
