For years and years and years I used a WTB Rocket V (130mm wide) saddle, soooooooo comfy. Then the padding collapsed and I couldn't get one so moved to the Ergon SM in a Small/Medium (144mm wide) after trying a few, seemed alright but then an issue developed. It seems that there's pressure at the top my left thigh (ahem) which is causing the saddle material to crease and cause me discomfort and a lump.

Oddly on One road bike I have a Selle Italia Novus Boost Evo TM Superflow (145mm wide) with Manganese rails which is great, on another I have a Bontrager Verse Comp (145mm wide) and on another I have a Selle Italia Novus Boost Evo Carbonio Superflow (145mm wide) which I don't like at all.

Why is my bottom so confused by what it sits on?

First thing you need to do is measure the width of your sit bones

And not all saddles measure up the same way - just because they all say 145mm doesn’t mean they are the same size!

Ergon have an automatic arse measuring machine if you can find them at an expo. I'm not even joking.

The same reason not all size 10 shoes fit my feet- we are 3D. Saddles measuring the same/ similar (so not actually the same) in one dimension aren’t all going to “fit”.

You also need to factor in the position that you sit on each bike.

A road bike you'll typically be leaning further forward than a mountain bike where you'll typically be sitting more upright, so the contact point between your backside and the saddle varies.

Identify which of those saddles are comfortable and still available to purchase, then go and buy however many you need.

Disclaimer - what suits a road bike may not suit gravel/MTB/singlespeed/bmx/unicycle

When I lost weight (going from about 85kg to 75kg) my saddles become uncomfortable, I can only think it's because the comfy fat on my arse had been reduced.

Maybe something similar with the OP?

Also you become less flexible as you get older so this can also have an effect on saddle comfort.

It's a shame, given how hit and miss it can be to get a saddle that works for you, that saddle co.s keep changing their product range (in fact becuase its so hit an miss you can see why its smart thinking on the manufacturers side of things). The Specialised Alias works for me, but as soon as I figured that out it was disconitunued. I've been buying second hand ones off ebay for about 15 years but now the ones for sale tend to look more tired than the ones I'm needing to replace

@PJay - Saw that but I think only medium's, it's the small 130mm that I used to have.
