I've had the halfrauds one for a few years now. Its great but I'd like to up my game.
What would you buy?
Hope R8 for the bars, R2 for helmet. That’s been my setup for the last 7 years, works great.
MTB - USE Exposure Maxx-D.
Road - USE Exposure Strada SB Aktiv.
I’ve just bought an Exposure Maxx D to replace my age old Lumicycle. Older model from their outlet store. Already heavily discounted and got another 18% off with a STW members discount code. Not as powerful as the current version but loads more than I currently have and I rarely used that on full as it was.
Had Evolva X8 on both bars and helmet. Really good when they were £50 each. Not as good now they're Soonfire and £80+.
Had Magicshine RN3000 for bars and Ray2600 for helmet. Decent.
Now on Exposure Zenith mk1 on helmet and Maxx-D on bars from the outlet. Lovely stuff. Mk13 Maxx-D comes in at £237ish after 18% STW subscriber discount which is pretty good.
Exposure to budget
I'm on a diablo on the head, old six pack on the bars.
On the road the diablo does fine
Had a number over the years, about the best being a two lamp cateye thing. Problem was I never had much money so waited for sales and tried to buy the best discounted.
Then I got(2 years ago) an Exposure Toro mk12(2nd hand ebay for £140). BLOODY HELL this is the business 😀 Finally having a light that illuminates the way ahead is utter luxury.
But im maybe a bit used to it now and sometimes think something brighter would do, which is why I'm trying to find a 2nd Toro or something more powerful to use in unison.
.
I've also got an Exposure 'Fuse' one that wires into the ebike, but I've yet to fit that as it means the ebike shop doing the work and they charge a lot more than the lamp costs. I got it via tri sport on ebay new for £41
It's about 1000 lumen so would boost things a bit but as above, I dont trust myself to be able to wire it up myself and its too expensive to have the shop do it, so in its box it is destined to live.
I’ve had evolva, lezyne and Ravemen on the commuter. The first two died with build quality problems. The Ravemen is doing ok. Ultimately not as good as my exposure lights, given how long the exposure last, it’s not overly expensive in the long run
Magicshine Monteer 8000 on the bars, Diablo mk12 on the lid. The battery on the Diablo isnt great though so only use that for the descents TBH
I had the Ravemen, it was very good. Easy to switch between bright and dim and back again, USB--C, charging and could also act as a battery pack.
Gave it to one of my children to get them home, not seen it since.
I've had the Ravemen it was okay nothing more.
Just trying to make peace with parting with 200 odd sheets for an Exposure torch.😬
Exposure on the MTB and work bike
MTB 6 pack on the bars and a Diablo on the helmet (both around 5 years old and still going strong)
Work bike, MTB Diablo on the bars for the near pitch black parts of my commute plus a Exposure Trace front and TraceR rear light to make sure im seen by other road users (Trace & TraceR are 3 years old and still going strong)
Plus a Cateye rechargable clip on rear light for my work bag as a 2nd line of defence in case other road users dont spot the under seat TraceR or if the TraceR light goes flat whilst commuting i still have a rear light (not happened yet!)
Does anyone know how I can get an STW members discount code for Exposure?
Tried banging my email in numerous times to get the code and nothing comes (checked spam). Could either be the fact that it's an old Tiscali address that I don't use any more (but they get forwarded to a Gmail account), or just STW being shonky, dunno
Go through the members discount thing on the site and it gives a code
From ‘my account’ click on the person icon top
Right

But it doesn't, hence my question 😉👍
Do the exposure lights still use a proprietary charger rather than USB-C? I have to admit that puts me off.
Plus being able to charge other things from the light is incredibly useful.
Exposure.
MaxxD front.
And a TraceR for the rear whilst you're at it.
In the (very unlikely) event you have a problem, good people to deal with.
I got an upgrade on my Joystick for the helmet a couple of years back for a very reasonable price in part ex for an ancient version that the battery was finally tired on. A trebling in output !
I've got an Exposure Toro on the bars and a Joystick on me noggin, more than enough output for my bimblecore riding!
Don't underestimate the boost using a light on your bars and lid has, far better than a (single) high power light on your bars. Think about supplementing the halfords light with something else rather than replacing it completely off you can.
Edt: the Toro is 8 years old and still looks and performs like new, my night riding buddy has spent as much in cheaper ebay specials in the same time. He's now bought a decent Magicshine and it's really good, but they aren't the cheapo option they once were any more.
@theartistformerlyknownasstr if you go in to your account I had a pop up asking me to put my email address to get a validation code. Get that from your email inbox and it then takes you to a page with all the discount offers on it.

Oooh, is there a light out there that is also a powerbank? Which one(s)?

Yes, yes, done all that. The email never comes is what I'm saying
In the my account area which of your email addresses is shown? If it’s the old one change it. The actual exposure code isn’t tied to your account but I’ll not post it in the open forum.

Magicshine rn3000 and rn1500.
They make a good helmet and bar combo. 25% off magicshine UK with SHINE25
I really like my MTB batteries light on the bars. Robust, simple button operation, plenty of power. I've got an exposure axis on my helmet and it just seems unnecessarily complicated. Press twice to switch on? Locating the on off switch is a bit fiddly with thicker gloves and I'm not convinced by the TAP system. I like the lack of cables and it seems robust enough but I'd prefer something simpler with a longer run time, so on or off and decent brightness.
Echo the comments on the Exposure Toro - broken once - fixed by Exposure repair service - good as new and well over 10 years old - other brands of light are available but nothing has lasted as long.
Thanks CP!
Moon Rigel enduro model for 120 quid online. 2000 lumens and good for walking dogs etc when not biking.
The buttons on it are a complete arse of pain though.
I had the Bikehut / Halfords 1600 and was reasonably happy with it off road, but then went on a ride when someone had a maxx d and the difference was insane. So I bought one of those.
I use it in the highest power reflex mode so it dims itself down to save power when you’re stationary or going really slow. 4000 lumens when you’re at full chat. Lasts ages in that mode. <br /><br />
I use it with a helmet light to see round the corners - anything that outs out about 1000 lumens and has reasonable battery life will do that. I don’t especially rate my exposure axis for this - the battery life doesn’t seem brilliant. Think the Moon Vortex 1300 does the same job for a lot less money.
There were some on the Exposure Outlet store the other day on offer - sort high to low and the maxx d’s are the first thing that came up.

I’ve had my Maxx-D for 10 years of weekly night-rides and daily commutes. The switch is getting a bit finicky after thousands of presses but as it’s the kind of light you turn on at the start of the ride and off at the end, and leave it at the same level in between even that isn’t an issue.
I guess eventually it’ll need a new battery and switch and I know Exposure will do that refurb for a fair price. If everything was made like this there would be a lot less landfill!
Ive just spent a small fortune on a MaxxD MK13 light.😬
Thanks to you guys I've signed up on here and bought from the outlet.👌
