Asking for a mate, he has a single speed gravel bike so not much to lose?

No. Should be fine. It's the approved technique for frozen mechs and Shimano freehubs.

I had a ride where the mech got so blocked with mud that it was the only way to clear it.

Depends on how long you spend "shaking" after....

I can confirm this.

We did have one mates GT Tequesta that we took turns to defrost one icy new year's Day ride. Ahem.

The chainstay rusted through the next winter.

Some new year's eve party.

If I had to piss on a bike, to be fair, I would most probably choose a gravel bike.

Go for it.

I usually do this to neutralise nettle contact. No negatives I can think of.

You've seen the bottom of lamp posts and post boxes where dogs wee and the damage caused?

Your bike complains of being stung by nettles?

I wouldn't. Not only is it a bit minging but piss on metal doesn't help the metal. If you have to for some strange reasaon (like frozen mech) then I'd rinse it with water as soon as I can and clean it properly.

I've done it to unfreeze rear mechs on a winter adventure race. Didn't do noticeable damage - my urine is neither concentrated acid/alkali, nor is my bladder pressure that forceful. Bikes got a good rinse later, don't see an issue with it.

" . . . would there be any damage done?"
In my case, the damage would most likely to be to my back.

Don't know, but it does wonders for green algae on decorative gravel. A friend told me.

No, it's incredibly stoic, but I have great empathy.

Professionals in the peleton frequently wee whilst riding, doesn't seem to do their bikes any harm (although the bikes do get washed most days).

As long as you and your "mate" don't cross streams it'll be fine.

Maxxis don't recommend ammonia-based sealants

Its Singletrack so boiled piss might work better (preferably in a deep fat fryer)!

My mum told me that when she was a telephonist with the German army on the Eastern front, they used to wee on their hands to cure chapped skin.

It's all true, German army, Eastern front, wee on hands. I believe you can also defrost your windscreen in the same way, though you have to be careful if the bonnet is slippery.

I think we can safely say Putoline has entered the STW memebook.
