I 'm trying to get an old bike operational as a backup, and would love it if anyone can help me identify and source a part. The bike is a Specialized XC model from around 2011 I think - not sure of specific model or age.

It's the little "top hats" from photos below that have become worn. They sit at the bottom of the shock as it connects to the frame. Sorry I don't know the proper terminology, but hopefully photos will help!

Worth contacting the distributor for X-Fusion in the UK, Upgrade Bikes: https://www.upgradebikes.co.uk/

The shock mounting bushes appear to be worn through, there may well be damage to the shock eyelet which would necessitate replacement of the shock body. There may be other issues going on as it's clearly been a while since your shock was serviced.

The cheapest option may be a completely new shock, but IIRC Specialized had a custom shock size for the FSR XC of that vintage.

Looking at the photo it does look like the hole in the shock is ovalised- it could be the photo, or the shock could be dead. Have a look closely and if it isn't round the shock will need replacing.

If it is still round then I suspect those bits are just part of the shock bushing, a disposable part that acts like a bearing. There should also be a sleeve inside the shock mounting hole. If that's gone then you'll need to order the whole bushing kit. A company called Betd are good to speak to, they sell all sizes.

I suspect that if you aren't sure about any of this it would be safer to take it to a bike shop.

Thanks for the advice... really helpful. I think the eyelet hole is round (prob the photo making it look oval) and I've just ordered some callipers to measure the size of the bushing/sleeve.

These guys seem to offer the right sort of thing: https://bouncecycles.co.uk/book-a-service/mountain-bike-suspension-bushes/
